Hi all. I have a wedding in 3 weeks and plan to have an updo. I would like to make my own clip in extensions. That way, I can have a lot more thickness and volume to the actual updo (if I tie my hair up, the actual ponytail is thin due to lot's of short layers in my hair).
The problem is that I would like extensions that will be ok if my hairstylist dye's it (dye only, NO bleach) plus I would need hair that can be curled easily for the updo.
Can any of you ladies please help me out? I would greatly appreciate it!
p.s. The reason for dying the extensions is because I have
multiple colors in my natural hair (which will be dyed
as well, to match the extensions)

You can get a human hair clip which you can dye and curl, better off just buying one instead of making one.

If you only plan on wearing it "up"...I would suggest just buying a pre-made pony tail and attach that. If you try and put the clip in's on you make find that with an up-do....it will be hard to get up high on your head and won't be very comfortable. Their are lots of wig/pony tail sites and I'm sure e-bay may have a few also. Just synthetic if you are only wearing it for one day and it will be much cheaper.....10=20 bucks.
How long are you wanting this up-do.... are you wanting a high ponytail or are you wanting a curly bun on top? Also what is your hair like...straight/curly.....shiny.....course?? Lots of things to consider before making that purchase.
Also the synthetic comes in many, many colors and styles....just not something you wear all the time....well you can but they won't last long with washing and such. They are also much shinnier that human hair but with an up-do and all that hair spray it will more than likely match for the wedding.

Current install-Bohyme Bodywave #30 and #14 in the straight hair/ they didn't have the #14 in bodywave, so I mixed them...works great!

Yes, I just want to wear it up for the ceremony day. In all honesty I don't know exactly how I want my updo.. yes, something to think about, ha. All I know is that I want it nice and full. I want big hair! Yes, maybe a curly bun?
I thought about synthetic ponytails, but the ones I've seen (sold at kiosks at the mall) look very fake to me. You're right. They're very shiny. I can spot someone from a mile away wearing one of those fake ponytails.. and I def. don't want mine to look that way! Maybe there are better brands on the net?
My natural hair is below shoulder length, wavy (tends to frizz easily), pretty course and overly dyed. Not that shiny unless I put some silicone in it. Holds curls like no other!
I flat iron a lot, but if it is hot & humid out.. it will start to get wavy and a lil frizzy. *sigh*
Oh and fyi the ceremony will be in the hot humid heat of Hawaii. And that is why I need it to be up, curly and away from my face. If I do otherwise, it will just frizz.
Is synthetic ok to curl and dye?

No you have to go Human hair if you want to dye and use heat on it, go to your local beauty supply store. They all pretty much carry them now.

Thx sourgirl but I was asking for suggestions on brands. I know that my local beauty supply store carries them, but it's a matter of which one will actually hold a curl, while withstanding being colored once.
I purchased some from my local beauty store months ago. It was cheap but said 100% human hair. I was unable to curl it. It didn't hold at all. I guess you get what you pay for.

You can buy himan with a wave in it, thats your best bet, if you bought one that has straight hair it really wont hold a curl but one with a wave in should. I bought it off this site : wwwhairextensions.com, although I did not dye it, it looked realy good and my hair also frizzes in summer and it blended really nice.

I also used easi hair from John renu, and It looked really good, its also heat friendly, when you click on the diffrent clip ons, it lets you know if its heat friendly or not.

I used easi hair for my wedding and I LOVED IT! I'm just not sure you can dye the hair?? Although it's human hair you don't know the process that was done to it and the hair can have unpredictable results. The only hair you can dye with any predictability is virgin hair. Indian, Russian, Asian, as long as it's virgin.
If you're wearing an updo the clip ins might get in the way. You may want to try a phony pony and work from there.

Also, what color do you intend on buying? I know you said you would dye it, but what's the lightest color in your hair?
If you are buying the lighter blondes, I think those are harder to find. Luckily I have darker hair, so I really think I can use almost any extensions (and I almost always dye them).
I honestly think D-LUX hair curled the best, and really held it, through heat and rain and horrible conditions, it still looked great! I've never used the wefts (which you would use with clip-ins) but I've heard of problems with the lighter shades, and problems with shedding with wefts.
Bohyme I've dyed before, and I loved it, I kept it in for a long time and it still looked good. I rarely curled it, so I'm not sure, but it seemed to hold well.
But also something to think about, if you are wearing up, like others were saying, it might be bulky or uncomfortable, just something to think about, and maybe before you and your stylist can practice so you dn't have problems on the big day!
Oh, and congrats, wedding in hawaii I bet will be wonderful!
