I have read numerously that damage from microlinks only happens when they are installed and taken out improperly.. from reading the very simple and basic tutorials on microlinks on this site and others, i cannot see how it is even possible to do it wrong.. am i missing something? Do you have any tips on how to install and take down 'properly', that i mighten already know about?
thanks for your help

Poeple often rush through installs when they're getting towards the end or they're inexperienced. Microlinks are METAL therefore they can cut your hair if they're placed imporperly. There are many things that can go wrong but a few major offenders are improper sectioning, closeing them too tightly, putting them too tight to the scalp, using crappy quality ones - if you really feel there it is not 'even possible to do it wrong' I suggest you do a forum search looking for posts about possible damage from them because I assure you, its very possible.

Oh i dont doubt that there are ways to do it wrong, it is just all the tutorials make it sound very simple and dont mention what to be careful of. I have been researching for weeks now, since i desided to order hair extensions i havnt been able to stop thinking about it or looking them up etc. I know that i should place them far enough away from the scalp that they can twist around once. I know that you should have the same amount of natural hair in each link as there is extension hair so the weight is even, I know to section it in a brick formation to avoid links showing, I know that microlinks can have a sharp edge and to be careful not to cut into the hair when closing off... I think that is about all I have picked up so far.. is there any important things i have missed? I have tried to look up other topics in this forum but although some say 'I had damage from an improper install' they dnt say how.. :( I was intending on installing sometime this week, but now i am really worried i will stuff it up. I have quite fine hair which breaks alot naturally. I have been using moisture treatments for a few weeks now to try and prepare it as much as possible for the extensions. HELP girls, wat else do i need to know!!

I think you've covered most of it. The only thing I would say is the silicone lined microlinks might be better on the hair since metal breaks the hair.

it's possible to do a simple thing like microrings the wrong way personal experience
things to avoid: microrings that have a screw-like appearance inside (it chews up fine hair) installing each ring too close to the scalp (the hair gets twisted) not making REALLY clean sections to avoid getting cross hairs in there brushing too hard, letting the brush pull the hair at the root
things to do: use silicone lined microrings leave room between your scalp and the ring so the strand moves freely go slow so that EACH strand is a neatly done one hold your hand against your scalp and THEN brush so as not to pull too hard
even when i finally got them right, i just couldnt get used to sleeping with them in my head, but ive used a few of the silicone lined right up front to add length to the sides of my bangs with no problems recently
good luck to you!
