A few posters here have expressed interest in how to braid.

I'm a novice myself and have found the following website very informative and instructional.

It displays various styles (for men and women) and then shows you how to create them.

Enjoy - practice makes perfect!!

Thanks for pointing out this link Uzma. I am amazed at the variety of braid styles shown at the linked website.

I only know how to do a basic 3-strand braid on myself. I haven't experimented beyond that.

A few comments on how I start my braid... in case this might be helpful to lhhusker, gilles, Kitaro, or others...

I start by putting my hair into a ponytail with a terrycloth-covered elastic (makes it easier to start the braid).

I then try to divide the hair into 3 sections of equal thickness.

At this point it helps if you understand the basics of braiding... left over center, right over center, left over center, etc. It's easier to braid someone else's hair but try to imagine you're doing this even though you're holding your hands up to your head...

It also takes some practice to hold two sections in one hand at the same time, something you'll need to be able to do to braid your own hair.

Maybe these additional hints will help. The main thing is to keep trying and eventually you'll get the hang of it.

I hate all of the following and lots more : Fundamentalists, racists, sexists, fascists, ageists (people saying seniors = senile , kids = stupid , 18 = immature or a combo of them), and bigots for causes yet to receive their own designation.

This is a really cool website!!! I was looking for a good style for prom and I have long thick hair that I wanted off my back but so you could still see it. It seemed impossible, but the Victorian triple braid shown on the website in the "other" area was perfect. It will be easy to do too! Hopefully this will help anyone else in a similar predicament.
