Some hair gels have alcohol which will tend to dry your hair out. I like Tigi Bed Head Power Trip Hair Gel. It has a smooth, light consistency and it`s not at all sticky. Sells around here for $12 for 7 ounces. You can order their products on line at:

L.A. Looks sells a decent alcohol-free gel that is available at most drugstores and Wal-Mart.
If you are the adventurous type, you could make your own:
Ingredients: 1/2 to 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin 1 cup warm water
Directions: Dissolve gelatin in 1 cup warm water. Keep refrigerated and use as you would a purchased gel.
Good luck!
