Does anyone know if it`s true that your hair grows faster during a pregnancy

Yes, it is true. My wife`s hair grew much faster during her 3 pregnancies, about 50% faster. I think I`ve read that hair during pregnancy stays in a growth mode without ever having a resting/falling out phase. As a result, hardly any hair falls out and it all keeps growing, creating thicker, faster growing hair. Nails grow faster, too. The body`s natural hormones promote this faster growth, and prenatal vitamins do as well.

Like all good things, the faster hair growth comes to an end. After pregnancy, you can have excessive hair loss for a while because basically the switch that kept it from falling out during the previous 9 months gets turned off, and more than usual falls out for a while. Depending on the thickness of your hair, the post-pregnancy thinning can be noticeable.
