sometimes, even after i take a shower, my hair is greasy on the undersides, right above my ear. It`s not because i don`t get to wash out all the shampoo, and I even got a clarifying shampoo. It`s only slightly greasy by the roots. why is this? HELP!!!

Hey, I have the same problem and I use a clarifying shampoo as well. Even though it is only a little greasy it still is annoying and sometimes looks pretty bad... anybody able to help us?

Make sure you`re shampooing right--1) Put a dollop in your hand and rub your hands together. Yes, I mean you should lather before you lather. I know it`s weird but it works 2. Your ends don`t need much shampoo, so simply massage your roots (you might want to focus on the oily area). The suds will travel down to the ends of your hair when you rinse, so don`t worry about them. 3. When you rinse, make sure to turn your head upside down for part of it to make sure you get those hairs at the nape of your neck. Also turn your head from side to side for the above-the-ear hairs.

i just have a few quick questions for anyone who can answer them:
1) does sleeping with wet hair have anything to do with how greasy your hair will be when you wake up, or should you blow-dry it instead/ does blow-drying make hair more greasy?
2) does clarifying shampoo really make that much of a difference, and should i really even bother?
3) does brushing your hair/touching it make it really greasy?
thanks for reading/responding!

Alas, I suffer from the same...er...condition. I have tried all sorts of shampoos myself, and have discovered that a tea tree oil one does seem to do the job quite well. Not perfect, but better than some of the other shampoos out there. I have also noticed that the Pantene Clarifying works well too.
I noticed that my hair doesn`t seem as "clean" if I sleep with it wet and that touching it a lot can make it greasy, as you do have oil on your hands. Another trick is to make sure that your hairbrush is clean, as that might complicate matters. One other problem is that it can get dirty if you sweat a lot (if it`s hot or humid or you are active physically).
So, I would say to try making sure it`s dry before you snooze and try different shampoos to find one or two that work well.

thanks a lot for your suggestions! Last night, when I took my shower, I did what HAIRDESIGNER told us to do, and I vigorously massaged my scalp, and let the roots get clean when I rinsed. I went to bed with my hair damp, and when I woke up, my hair was really clean and nice looking, not greasy at all! I still used my clarifying shampoo, but its almost empty so next time I go to the store, I`ll find onen with tea tree.
Thanks for your help!

bother. make sure your pillow is clean. pillows can trap oil and dirt and transfer it to your hair. silk pillowcases are generally better for that and will make your hair nice and soft. plus they`re all cool and comfy to sleep on.

I have one thing to add. Do you have blonde highlights? Both my daughter and I have noticed that when our highlights begin to grow out, the hair seems to separate (it isn`t really, just looks that way) and look a bit oily at the top. Then the only thing to do is get a touch up. We also both have very fine hair which tends to look oily faster. I would suggest that if you have time, don`t wash your hair at night before you go to bed. Instead wash it when you wake up. It will stay fresh and clean all day that way. To me it is sort of like getting up and washing my face. I wouldn`t dream of going out without a clean face in the morning and I also wouldn`t go out without just washed hair.

i actually just got a new shampoo, and its been working pretty well. it`s pantene pro-v clarifying shampoo in purity, and i highly reccomend it to anyone with oily hair. follow hairdesigner`s tips, and massage your scalp until it lathers. Thanks for all your suggestions!
