What color would you call what people call the "dirty dishwater blond"?
All my life I've been told my hair is a dirty dishwater blond and I want to know what color do you really think it is.
Dark blond..........ash blond...........med ash blond....dark ash blond.........light brown or what!

I have colored my hair for years to a golden blond but was thinking about going back to the dishwater blond and then just adding highlights but I need to know what color the dishwater really is.

go to sally's and look at hair swatches....see what looks like your natural color or if you have just a little bit of roots you can match it up.

We don't have a Sally's here but the next town over does so I might have to make a trip.

When I was a kid I never could understand what color the dishwater blond was and I guess it is different for everyone. Light brown to dark blond is what I was thinking.

I have been reading pages and pages of the threads and I have a question I hope can be answered.  I want to get back to my natural hair color, the dishwater blond ,and then just have blond highlights put in but I
just recently colored it andd it was suppose to be a  golden blond but it has some red in it.  I was reading where some say to use the colorfix to bleach it out and then recolor and then I read where you have to have a license to buy the colorfix.  Is this true? Then someone mentioned  Color Oops at Walgreens.  Which is better and do I need a license to buy?

Maybe I should go to a salon but in our small town they aren't up on really going on in today's world. Next town over is 70 miles.

Diann-
I don't think you should have to use those color remover kits. I've never used one, but think it would be very harsh on your hair's condition.  I think you can just use a toner to balance out the red tones. Something comparable to Clairol's Natural Instincts, as an example, that lasts 28 shampoos.  I read that you can't put color on color, without lifting a little, so a little peroxide (level 10) is needed, like the demi/semi permanent color kits have.  Usually it's listed to use an ash toner to eliminate red tones...but that might take you too far past the 'golden' that you want. Maybe a neutral, or a champagne color could help bring down the red tones?

My own vision of dishwater blonde would be a medium to dark neutral blonde.
Anyone know where 'dishwater' came into play as a description for blonde hair anyways? just curious, thanksWink

Dishwater blonde is now called dirty blonde...here's a link that sounds pretty accurate to me.  What do you think?

Hope this helps.

Yes, that helps. I just want to go back to my natural dishwater blond and then put highlights in it.
I thought that would be easier to maintain. I had a car accident and broke my back pretty bad and so I need to do something that will be easy to keep up.
thanks,

diann
