Have we heard yet why Mena got a buzzcut? I think the only one of the group you mentioned that was a shocker was Britney, mainly because it was more of a nervous breakdown type episode. The other girls shaved their heads for a film role. I certainly don't find it out that they choose to shave their head for a role, as they know what is expected of them when they sign on to star in that role. It's been going on for years, actresses cut their hair for roles, actors too.
If a celebrity chooses to do so on their own accord, then i'd be interested in knowing why they chose that.
Regarding mena, i don't care for the buzz on her. As far as that goes the shortest that i like to see anyone go is a short pixie like alyssa milano a few years back.
I agree with you though, it does seem like it's happening alot lately, whether for a role or not...intriguing.

Natalie was what, 2 years ago, Smallville girl, one year ago. Britney was a cry for help, so in the past year, what 2, one psycho and one we don't know why. Natalie and the Smallville girl did the cut for a role. 2 in a year does not make a trend.
With that said, it is much more acceptable for a woman to have her head shaved than it was 10 years ago (except in Kramer's and Bob's house, where it will never be acceptable ) I just don't see a bunch of young actresses cutting their hair off in the near future.

Add me to Kramer and Bob house. Not a look I like at all.

I don't like it either. However, has anyone ever given any thought to the idea that as human evolution continues, hair will become less and less important.? Even now we've lost it all except in a few places. Maybe we'll all have big bald heads in the future and be Lex Luther type braniacs!
Horrible thought for the hairdressers!

Well, since you believe in human evolution, Fat, (which I do not!), why would nature or God cause hair to evolve, only to remove it again? (lol) In any case, if you are right, I won't be around to see it, blissfully!
Re the OP, short haircuts have caught on, most recently Posh Spice's, but no matter how many Sineads, Susan Powters or Joan Jetts are thrust in front of us, relatively few women wish to follow them. Even most guys who don't care a whit about hair would go bonkers if their SO's suggested this.
Women go bald of necessity very day, and a percentage of gals look just fine with no hair. It's life, and it's a small person who would not be supportive. But as far as choosing to be buzzed or bald, I fail to understand it on women or men. And I think and hope that we'll never see that look in great numbers in our culture. Blessings, Bob

There's a girl who shaves her head in "Rush Hour 3" and there was a girl that shaved her head on "CSI Miami" in a plot that followed a Britney Spears type of character; Halle Berry is going to shave her head for a movie; there were a couple more but I can't think of them right now; not mainstream but maybe on the increase.

I would say it's a publicity trend. It wouldn't have been acceptable 25 years ago (baldness on screen was hardly acceptable then for a woman--recording a shaving in a mainstream movie absolutely taboo). Today, on the other hand, if it is thought that a titillating head shave will add an easy $10 million to the box office then it can just be added as an extra--especially if the woman is beautiful and well known for her hair.

Before she become famous star at "Dodgeball", Christine was a guest star in Friends (Bonnie) and shaved her head.
Does she wear a cap?
