Hey all. I have been using LG for a while now, but keep reading on here about protac- and how much some people seem to like it. I believe one person even said that she got 4-6 weeks out of it in an intsall! That's more than my LG installs hold up! SO, what seems to be the average ammount of time the tape holds in? I really want to try it next install because last time I took my hair out, I noticed a small bald spot (eeeks). Even though I use a ton of LG remover, I still have tons and tons of glue globs leftover when my wefts slide out, and I tend to lose a significant ammount of hair. So, where can I get this protac by the way? I am eager to give it a try. Thanks for the help!

Hi Amanda!
To remove Liquid Gold you should use pure acetone and Goo Gone. Goo Gone is amazing to get rid of LG residus and it works very quickly.
I got the same time out of LG and Protac install but Liquid Gold worked a hundred times better for me. Protac tends to sort of disolve on the wefts and my own hair after a couple of weeks or so and leaves a sticky residus that is very hard to remove on my hair and really impossible to remove completely on the wefts. That's why I swiched to LG. It feels lighter, cleaner and it is faster to use too.
But everyone has his preference, so you should definitely try it, just to see what works for you. Some people like the tape system over LG...

I used airflex (also known as pro-tac) tape for a long time and with much success. But I prefer supertape. I find it has a bit less shine, its more matte and I think it leaves less residual stickiness. Although Ive never experienced alot of sticky residue with any tape, but some people do.

I prefer straight acetone for removal.

I easily get 6 weeks out of an install with supertape. I also use a little LG on the tape before attaching it to my hair and that seems to make them last even longer. My last install was 10 weeks before taking down, although that is not the norm for most people.

Hm, thanks. Maybe I will try goo be gone on my next takedown. I don't know why I am having so much trouble with LG left in my hair- but it is pretty bad. Seeing that bald spot made me freak out obviously haha.  I think I will give tape a try and see how it works for me. Thanks for the insight!

I'm with Frenchie on the residue from the tape...it is sticky and messy.  The liquid gold wefts are more thin and less visible.  However;  the tape has its place.   It's good for triple or double wefts in the back.

Maybe this is a silly question, but, doesn't the LG mess up the weft?  I mean isn't it hard to clean it off without unraveling the hair if you want to reuse the tract?

No not for me. I use a combo of acetone and Goo Gone to clean the wefts and it works fine, much much better than cleaning tape residus on the wefts

i dont have very much trouble with the protac/tapes...i take mine down at 4 weeks, shampoo the weft with clarifying shampoo, let it dry and then retape it (yes the weft is still kinda sticky but it works, you just put new tape over sticky weft)
to remove the tape wefts i put conditioner all over my head and then use either goo gone or one of the adhesive removers sold on extension sites (c22 or amm's clear remover)
to remove liquid gold i do have a bit more trouble, and like you i first ended up pulling out some of my hair...i was not being patient enough...really soak the LG bond with remover (goo gone works for me) and pick at it with a rat tail comb...no pulling until it slides out easily....put more goo gone and conditioner on your hair where the chunks of LG are left and comb them out with a fine tooth comb...a couple of shampoos and conditioner and it should all be out
if i can figure out how to use the tapes and LG without ripping my hair out you can too~
good luck with your next install/removal!

I'm with Sherrie...SUPERTAPE ROCKS!!!! It holds for way longer than protac and is just as easy to remove. I usually do a reinstall at 4 weeks, but I could go longer - probably another 2. After 4 weeks, though, my head needs to BREATH for a day or so. I buy supertape here....

and I get the 36 yard roll.
