All other factors equal, it more effective to wolf for a long period of time, versus frequent short sessions.

Let me explain my reasoning in more detail.  If you wolf three times for four weeks, and get a cut after each wolfin session, that's a total of 12 weeks.  Each time you cut your hair you are ending the "wolfin effectiveness period" and starting over.  In essence, you are interupting the progress process.  Basically, it's the compression of the waves in conjuction with your hair thickness that makes wolfin work.  If you were to wolf for 12 consecutive weeks, you would put more compression on your waves for a longer period of time.  This will cause your waves to form more deeply and enhance your 360 wave development.

Dub-C is right though and you should do at least 2 long wolfing periods during your time with waves and space out the wolfin periods if possible like in January you wolf for 12 weeks, then do one in like October for another 12 weeks . Inbetween wolfing periods maintaining and going through smaller wolfing periods like 6-8 weeks that way you maximize your gains.

Do you all think wolfin for shorter spans (2-3weeks) will take detail away from my your waves?

It won't if you maintain proper brushing frequency for your wave type and texture.

When I wolfed for short periods of time my hair trained slightly but at a certain point it would frizz like a motha. But after doing that one 16 week session its been easy sailing.
