Hi all. This topic has come up a few times but I just want to ask to make sure.
Okay I have a sew in with 3 wefts. It was initially installed back on July 7th. I had a tightening about a month later but all she did then was retighten the wefts and she did not do a full take down because she said it didn’t look like it needed it yet. It feels great. Snug and nice. No problems at all. However, that means that by the first week of next month, I will be at 2 months without a complete re-do. My concern is dead hair starting to build up under the wefts. Should I be concerned about that and get a complete re-do at 2 months even if it still feel and looks okay? I know some of you have been wearing sew ins for years so how do you maintain your weave for optimal hair health? Thanks in advance. |

The longest I've gone without a reinstall was 4 mos. I didn't have a problem with removing the dead hair but the braids were becoming very loose. Did you find out the exact technique they used to do your hair? Oh gosh, I still dont know. It might be that first one. I tried asking her by email and she said call and I never got around to it. It involved needle and thread and then wrapping of small rubber bands but I dont remember feeling anything braid like going on so you are probably right. Like she just took the weft first thing and laid it across my head and started sewing.
I guess i will see how its feeling in the next couple weeks and as soon as i can get a finger in there, go back to the origional lady and have her redo totally. I will find out exactly what she does also. |

OMG, I have not been able to go more than a few weeks with my wefts. I literally just had another put in 5 days ago and the sides are already WAY loose. I have tried out SO many different braiders here in Dallas and have yet to find someone whom I think really gets it with Caucasian hair. Help me with this above method. Is she just twisting the hair and then sticking a ring (or band) on every inch or so or is it braided and then rubber banded? I am seriously going to be enlisting my hubby in the next few evenings... As often as I am having to have this done, I am breaking the bank having to get new hair every time (I chop on it every day until it is too loose to wear at 3 weeks max!) Now that I am exclusively hand tied, I have GOT to finda weft method that works for me. I LOVE the wefts, I just have to find a way to make them last longer!
On another note for you weave wearers...what do you think of the two versus three tracks. I am considering going down to 2 triple (handtied) and am wondering how it will look different in terms of bulk, blending, etc.
Any suggestions?

Kristie, my stylist always added synthetic braiding hair in the braids no matter how fine or thick a persons hair was. You need to find out if they're doing that if not, request it. What do you mean you chop on your hair? Liquid gold and supertape maybe a better option for you.

| Yes, they do add Synthetic. Lg or Protac are definitely not an option anymore. Trying to grow my hair out as healthy as possible, and those definitely did not go hand in hand based upon my experience. With the wefts, I did initially learn the hard way that you cannot wash your hair every day. Now I do once or twice a week and that definitely helps! Duh???? I really do love the wefts, just probably need to experiment some more since I am still such a beginner. |

| I chop, meaning cut the hair. As it loosens, certain areas are longer than others, so it is a daily process realigning the length and layers. |

| I don't pick at anything at all! Believe me, I know how much I am wasting (good thing my husband doesn't!). I have barely TOUCHED this new hair and am trying to do something else this time to prevent cutting it at all. I wear my hair really straight, but thats a good idea to just curl the ends. I really prefer it straight is the only thing. I know its a learning process. Yes, braids are very tight when I get them done...to the point I wonder how much damage it does when they are braiding my hair. I have never had them retightened, but I have been to about 7 or 8 braiders in the past few months. I feel like none are really that familiar with Caucasian hair. I have done so much research looking for them! I would love to either find a method I or my husband could do, even if every couple weeks, or I would even be willing to travel a little just to find an experienced braider.... |

you gals may want to try this. Buy some silicone-lined links and sew them about every inch or two along the wefts. Pull a strand of your own hair above the weft through the link and clamp shut. When the wefts loosen, open the link, slide the weft up and reclamp. Once the links wear out replace them. ------------- ALL EYES ON ME |

Thats not right Kristie. Whoever is installing is doing something wrong for your hair type. I have fine hair and these are staying on me with no problems at all so it can be done.
Is your hair baby fine or just normal fine? I think on me, all that was used was string and little rubber bands wrapped around. I dont even think she braided. But also NO you can not wash a weave every day. That might be 50% of the problem right there. Get a good match to your own hair and then at the most, once a week with a mild shampoo. If it starts to feel oily up on your scalp, just clip back your long extension hair and brush forward all of the top hair and lean over in the sink and shampoo like that. DONT use conditioner up top or it will make it feel oily. Then just flip back the top hair and blow dry and style however you normally do, but also be sure to dry your tracks really well any time they get wet. That alone might help but I think you need a new install method. |

It may be that your hair is too fine and soft for just regular braids... It happens.. Not all hair types work well with braided weaves.. Finer hair textures and silkier hair types tend to slip sooner.. I have a girlfriend who is African American, but her hair is VERY fine.. She can't REALLY get more than 4 weeks out of a weave.. And at the 4th week she is REALLY pushing her luck..
Her braids loosen up by the 2nd week. For the next two weeks she is hanging on to the weave by a wing and a prayer...
 Given the number of stylists you've tried, I would say that it's not just a matter of them not knowing how to work with caucasian hair, but rather that they only know one method for creating tracks which clearly doesn't work well with your hair.. I am going to suggest you try looking for a stylist who does something similar to the Malyasian method or uses the rubberband method (like the ones MsHoney talked about earlier) Here's a link which is one of the better ones I've found which explains the Malysian method..

| Good idea. I have seen the EZ wefts. Same thing basically, huh? My only concern, are they gentle enough on the hair? I have pretty bleached out hair, and I am so afraid it would just break off the hair. |

Try a few rings in a small undetectable section of your hair for a week or so. If it's silicone-lined it should be fine. This is going to be the fastest, most affordable way for you to wear your wefts. It should only take a few minutes to tighten all of them. Thank you for your help MS. I am going to definitely try that micro ring method, but until I can get some I just "temporarily" did the twist/band weft on the really loose weft I had and I am digging it; I can't believe I was able to do it on my own. I do have a few battle wounds on my scalp and fingers from that needle. Ouch! But, with that method, what do I do with the extra hair? One side of the weft is still braided while the other is twisted, just twist it back in the way they do the braid, I assume? Anyhow, it is kinda hanging out back there. |

yes, twist it back and sew it down. When you sew, use an upholstrey needle instead. I'm not sure if hers are siliconed, you'll have to ask. Some people don't like the siliconed ones and prefer the regular ones. The trumpets will work too. ------------- ALL EYES ON ME |

So do I...I am in the same boat as you girl, really fine hair. My braids are pretty sturdy but I have had them re done twice by two different stylist in a month and I still look like I have a bald spot. I went with a single hand tied weft and my last stylist had a heart attack, I had to see her again this week because she cut it and all the hair on the right side of my head fell out..lol. Not funny but im tired of it so hopefully I get at least a month of peace out of this install. What did u guys mean by "rings" ? meaning micro ring strand by strand? ------------- Currant method Hair locs. |

This may be a non issue though.. I do not know for certain if can you get outside hair (non EP hair) wefted into hand-tied wefts... I've never inquired..
