Hi everyone! I'm a long-time lurker and have a question.
My hair is almost bra-strap length (except for bangs), brown, very thick, straight, healthy, shiny. Some white hair appearing now (I'm almost 38). It's not chemically processed in any way.
When I look through my hair for splits, I have been finding some hair that is crinkly. Not bent, like from a ponytail, but with tiny itty-bitty crinkles all the way up the hair strand.
Has anyone ever seen this before? Have any idea if it's preventable? It's obviously growing right out of the follicle like this - I have plucked a few to check. I'm worried that it''s due to aging, and that I'll be getting more of them as I grow older. Oh I really hope not!!!!
I hope that someone here has experience with this (and can tell me it's preventable!!!).
Thanks so much all.

I assume that those hairs didn't grow like that, but rather are single hairs that have been overstretched.
Hair is quite elastic, you can stretch it a fair bit and it will still go back to its original state once you release it. When you stretch it too much though you'll damage the bonds that make up the hair structure, so it'll bounce back into funny shapes.
Hair is especially prone to overstretching when it's wet, which is why you shouldn't brush when wet. The odd overstretched strand is hard to avoid, but if you get a lot try to detangle/comb/brush more gently.
