I have had medium golden brown hair with some lighter golden highlights for most of my life. I`m thinking about going blond. Any suggestions? My skin tone is usually on the tan side. What methods would be the best to lighten up? Thanks in advance.

I know you may not like this recommendation but after so many emails from people suffering w/ botched home color I strongly recommend that you go to a good color expert the first time out of the all-over color box. OR if you don`t have the budget for a color expert, start with a temporary color that you can "try on" and wash out over time. That way if you find something and you think will work, but if it doesn`t you only have to live with it for awhile.

Hair color should be matched to natural skin color and eye color. If your natural color is a golden brown you would probably do well w/ a golden or honey blonde. Again, a good colorist could use color charts to help you pick the best color.

Sorry to be a nag about the colorist, you should just see the mails and color disasters I get.

Best wishes,
Karen

Thanks Karen! I would definitely go to a colourist. I`m too chicken to do anything to myself. Especially since my hair is a little long and I wouldn`t want to ruin it. I really would like a change though and I think going lighter would suit me more than darker. As I said before my skintone is on the light tan side and my eyes are blue-green. So I think that would work. I just wasn`t sure if I should get heavy highlights or go completely blonde. Although I`m afraid that would be too damaging. Is it actually possible to go from dark to light without frying your hair? Thanks again for your help!
