Hi Jenna, have you visited http://www.naturallycurly.com/ - http://www.naturallycurly.com/ - a site especially for girls with curls? On the front page is a link about the art of cutting curls and under curlypix you find lots of style ideas, coming in all sizes. My personal favourite is http://www.naturallycurly.com/hairstylegallery/image33.htm - http://www.naturallycurly.com/hairstylegallery/image33.htm , but there is a lot more to choose from. Plus a curly hair board to get in touch with other people - more people, more ideas and tips.
http://gallery.hairboutique.com/ - http://gallery.hairboutique.com/ offers curly styles as well as as thhp://www.hairdos.com I hope this helps a little.

Hi Jenna,
I hear you. Curly hair can be challenging. I would like to start by suggesting that you read an interview I did with Ouidad - the queen of curly hair. She has some great ideas for styles for curly hair.
http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip032.htm - http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip032.htm
Ouidad recommends that curly hair can be cut and shaped so that it lays well.
Cutting Curly Hair Ouidad Style I asked Ouidad what is the best way to cut curly hair. Ouidad told me that people should never get it layered. "When it`s layered," she asserts, "it sits in clumps and does not flow. The goal should be to make the hair look its best by removing bulk and width."
To give curly hair movement and shape Ouidad has developed the Ouidad "carving and slicing" technique which prevents the pyramid shape that layering creates.
With her specially designed technique, Ouidad carefully pulls out selected strands of curly hair with minimum tension and slices them out to allow the remaining curls to nestle into each other in an orderly way. She adjusts the process according to how curly the hair is that she is sculpting.
Ouidad recommends "keeping hair fairly long because the extra length and weight make the curl easier to control."
She cautions that her technique is very different from thinning techniques which involve chopping uniformly into the hair to eliminate volume. Thinning techniques on curly hair promotes even more frizz because the upper layers are removed.
Shelley Pryor, a stylist that works w/ HairBoutique.com has super curly hair and recommend that you don`t go to a stylist who is NOT familiar with cutting curly hair.
Another helpful trick for curly hair is to actually look at some celebrities as examples of styles that work:
1. Sarah Jessica Parker has naturally curly hair and she is currently wearing it in a chin length bob and letting her curls flow freely. She definitely has her hair cut so that the weight holds the curls down and they don`t frizz up.

2. Nicole Kidman has naturally curly hair and she wears it currently in a shoulder length bob shape but has worn it longer.

3. Debra Messing is the poster curl for naturally curly hair.

One secret tip about all the stars above. Not only do they wear their naturally curly hair at chin length or longer, they often will use curling irons to form their curls into perfect ringlets.

Hi Karen,
Thank you soooooooooo much for your help. I appreciate you taking the time to write out instructions and not just point me somewhere else. I also had no idea that stars w/ curly hair actually used curling irons to get such perfect ringlets. That information actually helped me a lot because one of my problems is that my curls never form well. I tried a curling iron today from my sister and it made a big difference. I just never thought of that idea before.
Thank you again, Jenna
