Hi everyone,

I'm naturally a sort of medium blonde but a few months ago I had highlights put in my hair. More of my hair got covered in solution than originally planned and now after lots of sun exposure it's looking a bit too yellow and brassy for my liking.

Can any of you suggest a colour to use to cover the highlighted bits which will make all my hair the same colour it is underneath and at the roots?

you could use a neutral color blonde....that might be your best bet.....i would use demi perm on your hair because it is just so much easier on your hair...demi perm will go darker so if you want to match your natural hair, go a shade lighter in neutral blonde and you should be ok....good luck on this....you know, you do have pretty hair.

Very beautiful hair, Ally. You might first try a purple base shampoo and conditioner first. Then if that doesn't help, do as lovetocolor suggests.

Thank you both so much for the advice. I read about the purple base shampoo and conditioner on one of the brassy tones threads and it sounded like it could be helpful, so I shall try that first. I've just looked at neutral blonde colouring products online and that looks like a colour I would be comfortable with, so failing the purple base stuff I'll attempt that (emphasis on 'attempt'...last time I did an all over dye-job I went a bit ginger!) Thanks again. Smile

It looks like your hair is three different colors to me.  Sort of Golden blonde on the ends, very pretty, a lighter golden blonde in the middle, and a neutral or natural blonde at the roots.  I think what I would do is try to blend your hair into one color by doing lowlights that would match your roots...although I am not sure what color to use...since your hair is so yellow in the middle try some strands with purple based dyes...maybe Dusk Blonde 93 DN...If you try this only color those strands that are yellow...use a 10 vol. and experiment with leaving the solution on for varying times.  The ends look a bit golder "redder" at least on my monitor.  Maybe some strands with ash or do the entire ends with an ash based dye...moon haze maybe...strand test it's really the only way to know for sure...Anyway, just ideas about what you could do.

Are you planning on growing it out?  You have very pretty hair.  Hope this helps and let us know how it turns out.

Good luck!

Thank you for the advice Rebekah. Smile I was going to wait for the highlighted sections to grow out, but just grew SO impatient with it and felt a bit yucky with that colouring.

I couldn't find any of the purple base stuff, or indeed any neutral blonde, so I bought Clairol Chardonnay Shimmer Medium Blonde. I tried it out last night and my hair now looks like this:

I didn't use the mixture on my entire hair because the colour underneath was what I wanted anyway, so I just put it mainly on the highlighted bits. I'm really happy with it, it's the colour I was aiming for. Smile
