My hair is naturally a dark brown but colored black.
I love the black because it looks so healthy and has incredible shine.
 
What are some highlights that work for black hair.
 
I was told Chestnut and a Burgundy, then I was told the Chestnut would only work on dark brown hair.
 
Can anyone give me some pointers and is it safe to add a few hightlights at home?

I've never done this but I'll give it a stab...lol. 
 
First, I think I would remove the color from the areas that being highlighted with colorfix.  Once you get the black out, then I'd bleach the hair, if you need to, to two shades lighter than the black.
 
Then tone it with a Medium neutral brown, if you want more red then you could add a bit at the medium brown level--does that make sense?  See the link below:

I think she wants to keep the black, but add highlights.I'd try the burgundy highlights.That would look cool.I would either ask a stylist on what to do,or I'd get them to do it.
