i want to know if this is any good (well, okay it's probably not) for your hair, but if it's worse than bleaching.

my hair is awful right now. i've got inch long roots, some faded red after that and then black. i want to get the black out so i can redo my hair red, but i don't really know how to go about it. i really don't want to bleach it. any suggestions?

stripping's better than bleaching it. it's either that, or coloring everything to black again.  after stripping it, it will be an orangey color, which will be perfect to put the red on it.  You will need to bleach your roots only to orange to get an even color red, the stripping wont' have an affect on your natural color

one thing you could try is a bleach wash.  you mix shampoo, bleach and peroxide and apply it to wet hair in the shower, leave it on about 15 minutes.  I did it on medium brown dye & it came out an orange color.  I don't know, black is so hard to get out, I would definitely do the stripping over the bleach shampoo, plus it would be hard to control an even bleaching so that your red is an even color....

Stripping might work. However, black hair can be a stubborn color to get out. You could try Metalex or colorfix, and see if it helps. Although metalex is more for temp. colors I think and colorfix for perm. ones.
Stripping would make it a orangey color though,so make sure you have another color and 48 hours to do.(must wait 24 hours before re-coloring)
