i want to home die my hair and highlight profesionally...
ok i have like strawberry blond hair its like a medium blond with a red tint. i have died my hair blond before but it either grew out or faded anyways i want to die my hair medium brown at home and get highlights professionally...can i do that?....i have died my hair before and my friends and familly a few times because they like the way i do it so i know i can do that, i have never highlighted my hair and i dont want to do it myself because im scarred it will be a disaster. the thing is i have died my hair brown before and it looked stupid without highlights and i dont have money to get both done. i dont want the(natural) red tint in my hair and i want blond highlights , if i die my hair and wait for it to dry and then go to the salon and get it highlighted will my hair fall out and i want it too look good no red? whats a good hair die that will cover my natural red tint or a way to get rid of it? also will my hair fall out or die if i get it highlighted right after i die it? if so whats the shortest amount of time i would have to wait until its safe?

hi, i have nat red highlights in my hair that are a pain when coloring!  to avoid the red when i'm dying i always use an ash color to cut the red.  whatever color you do (brown) def use an ash.  i just had my full head of heavy highlights covered the other night with goldwell light brown and it's REALLY dark but no red.  i think you can do the brown at home hten go to the salon, but before you do anything with highlights and bleach, def let the hairdresser know what you put in your hair, diff products take and react differently with bleach.  good luck!!!!!!

Your hair will not fall out if you dye it at home and than have it highlighted. Dying hair darker colors usually only adds pigment (doesnt strip it away like lightning does) So going darker should be minimal damaging.
Just be sure to tell your stylist you have colored your hair darker,so they know what they are dealing with when doing the highlights.

If you wanted added protection you could use neutral protein filler (sold at Beauty supply stores) which coats the weak spots in hair while coloring to prevent damage and ensure even color.

And using an ash color is great for toning down red tones.Good luck! Let us know how it turns outWink

Hi

you need a deposit only color, anyway for about a month or so i dyed it constantly, I dyed my hair so many different shades that for some reason I got the shade i wanted!  and afterwards my hair needed shine and I bought a product called  CLAIROL RADIANCE! my goodness this is so wonderful i used the clear shine and my hair looks in better condition than it did before i went on this hair dying frenzy, shiny and strong! i can't say enough good things about radiance, its wonderful!

anyway they have a lot of  nice shades too here is the website

and also the reviews form many other people. I understand you have to use a shade lighter than yours since it is a deposit only color...but it's SUPER!
