Do you ever compliment other people on their long hair?
I compliment women all the time on their long beautiful hair. At least, all the time that I feel that it would not be inappropriate to do so. Fortunately, my comments have always been well-received.
Also, do you ever receive compliments on your hair?

Sometimes I do. But I don't compliment everyone I think has beautiful hair. Sometimes it just doesn't seem appropriate, like when it's your professor or your boss - of course it depends on what kind of relationship you have with that person. And some people get uncomfortable when you compliment them. But maybe I should compliment people more often!
And I get compliments too! Lots of people have complimented me on how long my hair has become, since it was above my shoulders two years ago. Most of these compliments actually came from women with long hair, or from guys.

Yep - I compliment the few people I come across with long hair. The response back has always been smiles and suprise.
I have been complimented a few times by women and a lot by men, WHEN, I wear my hair loose. I should do that more often but then people start grabbing it which makes me uncomfortable.
Generally it's a positive thing to give and receive praise. I must note, however, that I have never received a compliment from a short-haired woman......

Uzma and Dave,
I have complimented men AND women who have beautiful long hair that I know. And I have done this since I cut my hair short. And I will continue to compliment people once in a while, if I know those people, even though I wear my hair short now. I usually don't compliment strangers on the street however. I'm a little shy about that. I compliment people who I know in my personal life or at work.
My fiancee has sort of long hair, a little past the shoulders, it was even a little longer than that but he cut it recently. I was hoping he would grow it out REAL LONG, but he knows I like long hair on guys and I don't feel it is my place to tell him what to do. He likes my hair short but he doesn't tell me what to do.
If a long haired person has exceptionally nice, well kept long hair, it is beautiful!
I love long hair in updos also!

I have complimented women in the past, but usually women I already know. Very rarely strangers.
I also receive compliments often, from both young and older women who I've never met before. Many times in the grocery store or at the mall. It usually makes my day.

I thought that too about the compliments I've been getting, but I do remember now that a very short-haired colleague of mine has in fact given me the warmest compliment of the bunch.
But giving compliments - and accepting them - is very much a culture-related issue. In some places people are more reserved than in other places. That short-haired colleague for example is very outgoing and very Irish. Most other people I meet are very Dutch (and therefore very reserved).

Complimenting long haired 'strangers' in the street is something y'all should try. It isn't hard and I've rarely known the interaction to be other than positive for complimenter and complimentee.
The key things are to think about are maintaining some distance, not touching, complimenting and stepping away unless the recipient clearly wishes for more of a hair discussion.

Anytime I see hair longer than mine, I compliment. Even if the condition is not what it could be, it's remarkable to see hair that long to begin with. That's alot of time and effort! I always keep it simple; "You have beautiful hair," smile and go about my business.
------------- My hair is almost to my knees (~50") and continues to grow longer. Rather slowly these days, but that's ok - it's still *growing*.
