I have about 4 inches of dk brown roots ( natural hair color ) and the rest is heavily blonde to light golden brown  lo and hi lites. I want to go back to a chocolate brown. How do I deal with the extreme hair colors and obviously with new growth different  conditions of hair? Do i start with the roots being they are the darkest do i leave it in longer? I need help and advice!!!!!!!

ps

Hair has been done by a professional up to now. I thought i could dye my hair one color by myself

Yes it is lighter than my natural hair. My hair is naturally a really dark brown and I want to dye it a chocolate brown all over or I might want to get one with hair dye and highlights but just a few. Is that ok?

how many shades lighter is it?  if it's more than 2 shades, your natural color will come out orangey. if you think it might be ok, then I'd really recommend a strand test.  It's best to ruin one strand of hair than your whole head!
