Hi- this question is for those of you who have worn both the Fusion (either GL or any other keratin) method of individual strand extensions and the hairlocs/microlinks types. What one do you find the most comfortable? the most invisible? easy to sleep, swim, do activities with?
maybe they are the same or each is different. I have heard a lot about damage from fusion and have worn them myself and not experienced any damage. I am just curious about other methods and wanted to try something different. Also I wanted to know if having the microlinks/hairlocs would make your head hot if you were in the sun? do they pick up light? Just curious to hear feedback from people who have worn both in their hair. |

Hi. I have worn both. GL and Hairlocs. I must tell you on both methods, I was not thrilled with hair quality. It was too course and did not match my texture. I also did not get very much wear out of the hair and they both started to lose shine and tangle within a month of wear.
As far as the attachment methods, I did experience some minimal breakage with GL fusion method. That might be because I have finer hair than yours. It was mainly just behind my ears on both sides and that is where my hair is the thinnest. It grew out and no big deal. The GL I would say is hidden much better. You really can not see the little bonds at all and you can even pin your hair up on the sides so in that respect GL is pretty good. But you CAN feel them like crazy and imagine a bunch of grains of rice near your scalp, that’s how it feels if you run your fingers through your hair. I didn’t care for that aspect of it. Hairlocs you can actually see as they are little copper bands so I didn’t like that. I also found them uncomfortable to wear and they kind of pinched. It might just be that I’m too sensitive to things up on my scalp like that so maybe you will have better luck. Hairlocs were too heavy on my hair and kept slipping out also. I now wear a sew in or partial weave it is referred to and I’m so happy with it! Best hair extension I personally have ever worn but I like it in part because you don’t have to deal with any slipping bonds. Those wefts are anchored in there and aren’t going anywhere until they loosen. Also the weft just forms a ridge and it’s less to feel when you run your fingers in there than 100s of little bonds. That’s just been how it’s gone for me. Good luck with whatever method you choose. |

I have worn both fusion and microrings. Neither one was too damaging to my hair. As for comfort, I feel both of them are sort of uncomfortable to sleep on. Both bond types are hard.

Metalgirl,
what would your recommendation be for fine hair where bonds might show through? I know if someone has thick hair, it doesn't matter if you get the locs or Fusion since neither show through but which would be more invisible if you have fine hair and the wind blows :) |

On both methods (Hairlocs and GL) I wore them 3 months before removal and I did not keep up either method and went onto something new.
I had no damage at all with Hairlocs and it seemed quite gentle. However, the trade off for that seemed to be slipage and since there are no glues involved and only a copper bond, I could barely apply any pressure to the hair so it was even difficult to brush. |

| I just got hairlocs a week ago so I don't know how much help I can really be. This is the first method of hair extensions I have ever had. My hair is naturally curly so the locs can be hid better. BUT - I hate my curly hair so I straighten my crown. My extensions are more like a spiral perm - less curly than my hair. I am still debating with these things. It is work. I tend to pull up the sides a bit and leave the back hanging. I have noticed that you have to work with hiding the locs though and what I'm concerned with is the fact that when my hair grows the locs will get farther down thus making it harder to hide them. Don't get me wrong - my stylist ordered locs to the color of my hair but I guess "I" know they are there. Just my opinion, if you have "thin" hair - I don't know if this is for you. Best of luck! |

| I totally agree! i had the exact same problem with them. They are difficult to conceal easily. I think you are right. If you hair is a little more thick naturally, then hairlocs are probably a great method but I think on the finer hair, they are too hard to hide and they can be heavy and slip out a lot. |

Krisma - Oh - I'm not happy to hear your hair tangled and lost it's shine after 1 month. Man for what this stuff cost - that makes me mad. I was told the hair "could" last years? Again, I'm new but I don't have money to spend, spend, spend on this stuff. I'll take them out rather than deal with that. Why can't anything be easy and just work? Mine is russian but again - it has been processed - color and permed. But again the said thing is it feels somewhat like my natural bird's nest! LOL!!!! |

placement is all it takes to hide them. the hair, if its great quality should not tangle at all and no hair, last for years.
If you just got them a few weeks ago, go back to the stylist and have her move some so you can put it up or back and not have ato work so hard with them.
When your hair grows out enough to see them, its time for maintance.

Krisma and Ang- did you both get the regular size locs? or the smaller ones? I have seen both and the regular ones (in my humble opinion) are kind of big and bulky for thinner hair. the small locs seem really discreet though (although I have never tried them yet) and are similar in size to the GL bonds when they are cut in half. the bigger locs are a little bigger than the GL regular bonds and heavy for fine hair. |

Really? I thought even the best hair does tangle. I used to wear the "messiah" Russian hair and by the end of the day I had some pretty good tangles to work through. Which hair do use with your system? ------------- |

I had both gl an hair locs..like gl hair hated the method very damaging, micro links or hair locs I was losing strands like crazy and the hair was crappy. Thinks I will try shrinkies next time. ------------- Currant method Hair locs. |

i have a few different vendors i work with that custom make my hair to my specs. It is top of the line and i dont have problems with it tangling. sometimes it also depends on what products you use at home too. ------------- Bringing beauty, one head at a time... |

| angsaff, I think you misunderstood what hair I am talking about. I was referring to the GL hair and the Hairlocs hair. On both systems, the hair only lasted in good shape for maybe a month and then began to tangle and feel course and rough. They both use Indian hair as far as I know. The Russian I am wearing now is soft, tangle free and has incredible shine to it. It also costs a small fortune. I think the reason the Russian holds up so well is it is virgin and has no coatings on it. If you can find Indian Remi like that, probably you will have just as good of luck with it. I just cant wear Indian for any extended period as the Russian matches my texture better. |

| When i wore my Russian Hair i had no tangles whatsoever, i even went to bed without it tied back and didnt have to brush it in the morning - i could simply run my fingers through it and it looked gorgeous. Mine was even coloured - i had caramel blonde highlights through it which were created by using bleach, this never effected the hair quality at all. |

| Nope Malibu. I still have no tangles in it at all. Remember though, I am wearing the bone straight. Perhaps that makes a differance? I dont know. The hair itself feels about the same as the day I had it installed. I am only washing once a week, conditioning the ends and using that fabulous Bonacure Sealed Ends you advised which is great stuff! I braid it at night and then slather that on the ends and it really seems to keep them nice. Excellent product and no greasy feel at all. What the hell is in it?? lol |

Krimsa, do you put the bonacure on dry hair too? I love the smell of that stuff. You're right, perhaps it's because you had straight?? I would say I could have gotten a bad batch but I've bought more than one batch at different times. I agree, the Russian hair IS really nice but not tangle free. ------------- |

Its been the most tangle free hair Ive ever worn but I mean tangling is relative to some degree. I mean if you stuck me in a wind machine for 3 hours or I took a long drive in a convertable for 4 hours, well I would probably need a brush after that lol. But Im just saying day to day, no tangling and I can almost finger comb it.
Yes the Bonacure has a nice smell, not overpowering or fruity, its almost like a mild perfume. Im getting low on it but I will definitely order more. Its a great product. |

What type of hair extension method do you have? You said you tried GL and Hairlocs and only kept them 3 months each.
Also, you are correct - I didn't know you were talking about Indian Hair in your earlier post. My stylist saud she ordered Russian hair for me and I paid a good amount for it. Dumb question, does Hairlocs supply Russian hair because I am assuming that is where she ordered it from.

I didn't have any damage but heard from everyone how damaging the fusion were and thought I would try the raved about locs since everyone says they are the gentlest and safest. I thought I would like them but they pinch and are pulling out my hair. one came out and took out a bunch of strands ---bulbs and all. maybe I am not giving them enought time but I really don't like them. Anyone have any advice? I have some of the regular size copper tubes and the really tiny mini ones installed. They seem super tight and like they will never come out. Is this how it is initially? |

Malibu-Yeah I braid my hair in two braids before I go to bed and I put the Bonacure on the ends only but on dry hair. Then I shampoo once a week. I actually put nothing in the hair after a shampoo, every now and then a speck of mouse when its dry but I have found I need very little product.
angsaff-Bonacure "Sealed Ends" is an excellent product for keeping the ends of extension hair very nice. Its by Schwarzkopf. Right now I am wearing a sew in with 3 wefts and 19 inch Russian hair in straight. I love both the sew in and the hair! Its the happiest Ive ever been with extensions in all the years of wearing them. As far as I know, when I got Hairlocs done, it was Indian hair and also coated. The hair seemed nice at first but after about 4 shampoos, that coating started to come off and it became more and more rough and tangly. You could probably ask your stylist to order any brand/type of hair you wanted for the Hairlocs. Im not sure how that works or are they locked into ONLY using the hair provided to them by the system? All I know is GL uses Indian and Hairlocs uses Indian hair. |

Sofia, I think it depends on the application. It sounds like your locs were too close to your scalp. As for the white bulbs, it depends on what that bulb looked like. Naturally shed hair will have a white bulb. Hair that's been pulled out will also have a bulb but a longer one. Does that make any sense? To really know if your hair was pulled out or not you would need to look at it under a microscope and of course you would have to know what you're looking for.  But the point is, if there isn't anything at the end of a hair that shed then it would be abnormal. ------------- |

all extensions take some getting used to. However with that said- it should NEVER ever feel like it is pulling. it could of also been the sectioning. The sections must be clean, neat and even, no hairs comming from the sides. ------------- Bringing beauty, one head at a time... |

for REALLY fine hair Id recommend some sort of closure at the top, and a combination of methods, weft, plus around the front area, some fusion or similar for cosmetic reasons (its easy to blend and cover the wefts with a few separate extensions around the front) ------------- www.boozehag.com |
