I am an appearance obsessed teenage male(No, I'm not gay) and I have been straightening my hair with a flat iron almost everyday or on days when I'm in public because I HATE MY NATURAL HAIR, it's weird fat curls and doesn't look good skater-ish long or short so i've always straightened it. Right now my hair is about 4-6 inches long, i don't have the energy to go get a ruler right now.

There are going to be a couple of times this year where I'll be away from home on vacations and stuff and won't have enough time to straighten my hair nor do I have the desire to get picked on for doing it by my peers and wonder if chemical/permanent straightening could be a temporary solution, and I have some questions...

1)What are the risks?
2)How much does it generally cost?
3)What type of Straightening should I get? are there different kinds?
4)Is it safe for my type/length of hair?
5)How long does it usually last for?
6)Will I be able to get it done at my local paul mithcell salon or will i have to go to the city?
