What is meant by the stylist referring to 20 volume, versus 10 volume, versus demi. I had been happy with my hair colorist but one day she used 10 volume instead of 20 volume and the color resulting with the same formulation was vastly different... HELP

it means different percentages of peroxide. 20 volume will give you more levels of lift than 10, which is why the color looked different. these links might be informative:

Thanks... If the same pigment was used and it was at 10 volume, would it be lighter or darker?
Also why would it be good to use Demi for other than root touchup...

well i'm not sure which color you were using, but when i use 20 volume with bleach for the same amount of time as with 40 it doesn't lighten as much and it usually needs to be applied again.
can't answer your demi question though, sorry!
