| I think I found a miracle product that turned my hair promblem around, it's like totally different hair, no tangling going on today. I heard alot about the pureology hair line and decided to give it a go, and it was the Shinemax, it is awesome stuff!! My hair is so soft and smooth, and not weighed down like some of the other products I've tried! THe Hydrate shampoo and conditioner are also awesome! I'm so glad I tried, it just sucks that the stuff is so expensive! |

When I used to use Silicone products on my hair, ShineMax was my favorite! It is GREAT!

most products that make shiny or straighten the hair contains silicone.

Silicone is used on extension hair quite often to give it a healthy, shiny appearance. I don’t think it hurts the hair at all but I could be wrong. They very often coat the extensions in silicone to mask damage, and give additional weight to the hair when selling.
It’s probably fine to continue to use on your extensions provided you don’t get it up near the bond area as it’s quite oily and filmy and might cause slippage. Use sparingly though or else it will make the hair look oily and dirty. Like start off with a little and work up to the perfect amount. |

Krimsa has good info there. Much hair for hair extensions is heavily treated with Silicones to provide the silky slip and shiny appearance. If the hair is in poor condition, it will give you quite a suprise when the Silicones wear off.  Silicones are not bad, no. What they WILL do that can be bad is build-up on your hair. If you use silicone shampoos, conditioners and shine treatments, then eventually they will build up and actually cause more frizz and a rougher texture than before use. So- occasionally doing a clarifying shampoo and going 'cone free for a few washes, then you can safely return to the 'cones. Silicones molecules are too large to pass into your body through your skin, so they do not pose a danger in that fashion. Many soaps and lotions also contain silicones so create a silky smooth layer on your skin. The main reason I personally stopped using silicones was because I really wanted to remove build-up, and I found that I like my more wavy hair once I had removed the 'cones. The silicones straightened my hair a bit after years of use. The condition of my hair has improved in the last year, so I really do not need the silicones. Yeah, I had been wearing extension hair for years that was coated in silicone and it was quite frustrating because the hair becomes a tangly matted mess after about 4-5 shampoos once that silicone layer disolves. It can also be passed off by a vendor or stylist as "you washed the hair too much" or "didnt use the correct products". Both are bull. That hair was processed to begin with and the cilicone was used to mask damage.
From now on I will pay the extra money and seek out VIRGIN, non-coated hair. It can be found but you need to look. Indian and Asian can also come in non-coated condition. |

Let me add this.. Just because hair has been chemically processed (for color and/or texture) does not make it bad. Not all extensions hair that is processed for color and/or texture is drenched/coated in silicone. If one is trying to match a particular texture/curl pattern, virgin hair may not be the right option. For example many African American relaxed textures can only be achieved by processing the hair to achieve the texture. There are no virgin options for these textures. Another example: many of the curly textures on the market (particularly the SUPER curly textures) are also processed to achieve the texture. The idea that processed hair is bad hair or automatically coated in silicone is far from true. There are LOTS of good vendors who provide high quality processed hair that is not damaged or coated in silicones. ------------- Check out the 5th So Cal offline luncheon?? If that was unclear to anyone, I apologize. I also have VERY fine silky hair. I also never stated that ALL processed hair is coated in silicone but it does happen and quite often as EVERY batch of hair ever put on my head over the years of wearing extensions was processed hair that had been silicone coated. I only blame myself for that because I was unaware that virgin, non coated hair even existed. I would always just use whatever hair was being provided to me by the stylists but hey, live and learn. |

How do you know that your Indian hair came from a person of Indian origin? How do you know if your Indian hair is processed or not? How do you know if your Indian hair is coated in silicone?
I can tell a difference in the look, feel and health of the hair I am wearing now. A distinct difference. I do not know where it comes from specifically. Is that relevant?? I never even said Russian hair. What if I was referring to something else?? I honestly thought we were done with these silly Indian/Russian wars. I want no part of it. I was speaking of silicone coating on hair and thats it. |

It's only a war if you make it one. The point I'm trying to make is that just because some processed hair has been damaged and silicone-coated doesn't mean that ALL processed hair is damaged and siliconed-coated. Just because some hair is coated doesn't make it crappy hair. Take Bohyme for instance. The hair is reportedly coated with something but it doesn't mean that it's silicone and even if it is silicone, Bohyme isn't crappy hair.
My hair is more likely to be Indian than yours is to be Russian. You can tell the difference in the look and feel and health? Are you comparing your "Russian" hair to your previously, admittedly, overprocessed, poor quality Indian hair? Well yes, you would feel a difference.
Oh and it was you in previous posts that said you are wearing "Russian" hair. Origin may not be relevant to you but to someone about to spend a heck of a lot of money on "Russian" hair it may be relevant. Most people would want some kind of guarantee that they were buying Genuine Russian hair and not buying European textured hair being passed off as Russian hair. I know I would if I was paying 100's of dollars an ounce for it. The vendors word wouldn't be enough. It's like buying anthing else that's designer branded. If someone was trying to sell me a pair of Manolo's for $500, they better come up with some type of receipt or purchase order or something not just their word.
The vendor is saying that he's selling Russian hair. If someone buys his hair and finds that it's not Russian hair they can sue him for false advertisement and he would be in a lot of trouble with the FTC and probably other government agencies if someone were to tip them off. ------------- ALL EYES ON ME |

I’m just becoming frustrated that it seems I and some other posters can’t seem to discuss ANY topic without it becoming a "Russian/vs. Indian" slander fest. I am not interested in that. I was speaking DIRECTLY to the topic of silicone being used to mask damage to extension hair. ANY extension hair.
I NEVER said that all processed hair was coated in silicone. I said A LOT of it is. EVERY batch of hair that I have ever worn in all of the years I have been wearing extensions was processed, silicone coated hair at install. So it does indeed happen and often. If you want to argue that point, fine go ahead. It has been MY personal experience (how many times do I need to say this) that processed, silicone coated hair, loses sheen and becomes a matted mess after a few washes due to the fact that the silicone layer is dissolving an exposing the damaged hair. I DO NOT CARE where my current install came from. If it had arrived in the mail and was damaged or coated, I would have promptly returned it. Like I have stated time and time again, if this hair came off the shaved backs of llamas in Peru, I would love it and buy it again, PROVIDED it was virgin, non coated hair that was a match to my own. For MY particular case, since I do have fine, silky textured thin hair, VIRGIN, NON SILICONE coated hair has been the absolute optimum for ME. If ANYONE else on this board wants to try Russian, why should you care?? If anyone wants to try Indian, Asian, Bohyme or ANY other type of hair. Why do you need to fuss so?? Let it go woman. I'm sorry krimsa. It's not you or Russian hair. I believe that we have great, honest vendors here that sell quality Russian hair, mokipono for one. It's just this one particular vendor that sets me off with his lies that all hair other than Russian is crap and he's the only one who sells it that irks the crap out of me. Nope, I haven't tried it yet but will soon. I don't recall anyone having anything but good things to say about Pureology. You should try Sherrie's Pure Pleasures line. It has a good reputation too. So shopping list: hydracure. It sounds like it'll work wonders just by it's name doesn't it
Now one that I do use that I really, really love is aPHogees Balance Moisturizer. I can tell a difference in my hair immediately. Followed by Kid's Organics Shea Butter my curls get great definition and staying power. I'm sure it works great on other textures of hair too. ------------- ALL EYES ON ME |

yeah i dont want to start fights about anything. lets just let this go. its ridiculous.
I want to try Pureology also and hear good things about it! A cheaper drugstore line thats quite good for the money is Hello Hydration also. Its nothing fancy but seems to moisturize really well. It might cause build up though over time. I find some of the drugstore brands can be a little bit "waxy" in feel and you need to mix it up with a claryfying shampoo every so often. |

i use the pureology Straight line. The shampoo and conditioner and also
the straight balm, i actually c*cktail it once and a while with the kms silk therapy-
i alternate between a few different lines.
matrix curl life( for when i wear my hair curly, my hair is naturally curly)
and the kms blonde line. along with the redken pure pearl for the blonde.
