In this picture.. i want the lighter brown.. the one on the right

I want a dark brown that reflects BROWN. not a flat color.. do I need to add lowlights? What level and what type of brown is this?

skydreem: no, its not me in the picture! the two girls are from California i believe... very very often faked on myspace etc... and they do look very similar! makeup is awesome:) makeup artist here so if you wanted reccommendations u can mail me:)

bambilee: i currently have a semi perm color called chocolate truffle in my hair... i have a lot of gold naturally in my hair, and it seems to me that this chocolate truffle stuff put a bronzey orange overcast in my hair and its not quite the BROWN color that i like to show through :)  The type of brown color I like is dark.. but not lifeless.

Ah.. you don't want a MATTE color. That is hard, I really don't know what you could do to achieve that. Many a toner could take out the braonzey overcast you have already... maybe try a glaze?
I have very little experience with dark hair... once I was old enough to make my own decission about my hair, I left my dark hair behind! LOL.

Your a makeup artisit? Awesome. You'll def. have to give me some tips!!! My makeup is soooo boring.

The lighter brown picture has ALOT of blonde highlights in it as well.As well as some light golden brown looking highlights too.
Are you trying to do this yourself? It could be a bit complicated,as you may need to bleach to get the highlights, and then tone them to the right color.

hi! nope, def. not attempting this myself! I am currently in hairdressing school so thats where it would be done if I attempted it. My main concern is the underneath color.. well, the main brown color in her hair. I love! Dark hair can be a pain though, I know. So can blonde! ;] and of course i'd love to give you tips if you have any questions:)

If I had to guess by looking at her eyebrows, her hair is pretty dark too,and it would seem that she got all over highlights.

Maybe you'd have to bleach your hair only slightly to lighten,so you can than dye it the lighter brown and then add in the blonde highlights.

Awesome you are in hairdressing school. I dont have any questions currently,as I'm growing out my natural color. I'm sure there are tons on here who do though!
All I know about color seems to be from trial and error. Also,I have gotten so much great advice from this website! Most of the people here really know their stuff.

her highlights look like mine used to and all they where was a level 6 which had warm tones in  (lowlights),   over bleached blonde hair  and the level 6 colour had washed up!!!!

I would go for a slightly darker, richer brown with blondish highlights to blend in. That will give you the depth you want without necessarily having to go golden.

Just looks like multi-tone blonde hightlights over brown hair to me.

ohh nono! I think everyone is mistaken! The hair color I want is not the blonde girl in the picture.. its the dark haired girl! I think the little picture below the two girls confused everyone when I said the "color on the right"... Do you get it?

I'm really confused, I just went off "the one on the right". Should be easy enough, take pics to your hairdresser and ask for a permanent colour, or match it to a home dye. Use a colour protecting shampoo so the colour doesn't fade and throw gold tones.

Yup that is what happend.I assumed you meant the one with the lighter hair.
Well, what color is your hair now?

The color you want is  like a dark chocolate brown, almost looks black on the ends. I'm not sure what "level" it would be though.Doesnt really look to have any lowlights or highlights to me,but it's kinda hard to tell from the picture.
Did you do anything to your hair yet?
