This may just be due to my frustration of growing out my hair, and growing out my layers. I've read on http://www.longhair.org/bangs.html - TILHC (the international long hair club) that to grow long hair, it's better to have hair that's all the same length. It also says that if hair is different lengths, the shorter strands will grow longer first and then the rest of the hair. It's been about a month since my last trim of getting rid of some layers, but the back of my hair keeps growing. The strands in front are taking they're own dear time.. I don't really feel like cutting my longer strands in the back, altho I will go for a trim every once in a while because the layers can get scraggly.. any thoughts and comments?

i had layers awhile back that i got tired of. to me it took awhile to grow them out. like you said the back keep growing too. after awhile it looked straggly. so i had to keep trimming the back so my hair would catch up. ------------- http://www.msnusers.com/monicasanders - http://www.msnusers.com/monicasanders |

Hi papillon_purple & Princess Well yes, there is a lot of thought that hair has to be all one length to grow evenly. Do I agree? No. Some of the long hair experts like Dr. George Michael say that you should never have bangs or layers. I have not found this to be true for me. I look god-awful w/out bangs. Horrendous. So I always have bangs and there has been no noticeable impact. My hair continues to grow longer and is now brushing the top of my thighs. I also have had layers carefully chopped into my hairline area to help give me a different look from time to time. Then I let them grow out. And they do not seem to grow any differently than the rest of my hair. Does that mean that the long hair experts are wrong? Nope. That I am right? Nope. It just means that everyone has to gauge their own hair experiences, needs and situation and act accordingly. So why not just let your hair be and let it do whatever it does as it grows. Most people who I've seen who have said they had layers had very wavy, almost frizzy hair. I doubt that if you're headed for straight and long layers is ever a good idea. And while the thought of guys with bangs seems funny to imagine, I am not up to testing that theory. Hair will grow if you let it grow and take care of yourself. Simple as pi. It'll keep on g(r)o(w)ing forever :P ------------- I hate all of the following and lots more : Fundamentalists, racists, sexists, fascists, ageists (people saying seniors = senile , kids = stupid , 18 = immature or a combo of them), and bigots for causes yet to receive their own designation. |

Hi papillion_purple This is one of George Michael’s theories that I don’t subscribe to. Reason: Hair left to it’s own devices IS of varying lengths – that’s natures way. Hence, people have to keep trimming their hair to maintain an even length. If GM was right than long-haired folks wouldn't need to trim > their hair would be programmed to grow into a straight or curved line, seeking that "balance". Also, personal experience/observation teaches me different. I have some hair strands that are way longer, and growing faster, than others. They stick out far beyond the majority. These hairs have not slowed down waiting for the short hairs to catch up. Have you considered growing your hair to your desired length, straggly layers intact and THEN cutting it into a shape. This way you are not progressively losing length and may reach your goal faster. Just a thought. Best of luck whatever you decide. Uzi ------------- Uzi |

papillion_purple, when I grew out my hair, it was entirely layered, and all the layers grew out at the same pace. As time passed I trimmed more from the bottom layers and almost nothing from the top layers. ------------- |
