I was doing my search and destroys agin tonight and was shocked to still find split ends after I had just searched the other day! It made me start thinking we are doing all these things to take care of hair and treat it right...is it possible that even with good hair habits we'll still get split ends??? What are your thoughts? What are you currently doing to prevent split ends?

I am right with you.   I don't have as many as I did, but I believe the culprit was using the blow dryer with the comb attachment. Usually, I use it to dry my hair and stretch it for cornrows but I decided to take a break from that or atleast, do it less to minimize the split ends.

I still get splits even though I work hard to keep my hair healthy. I do the search and destroy to to keep my ends smooth and tamed in between trims I make sure to deep cond and moist. Simply that.

Yeah. Avoiding blow drying and instead air drying makes a difference in keeping your ends nice and soft :)

I know I'm REALLY late on this topic, but I just had to make a comment.  The lady who does my hair has been doing it for almost 3 years.  When she first started, my hair was always really dry and my ends looked horrible.  Today, my hair is always really shiny and healthy AND she only trims my ends about once a year...and that is usually b/c I want a new hairstyle, not b/c I have split ends.  She sprays oil sheen on my hair once every 2 weeks when I get my hair washed and I grease my scalp maybe once a week with KeraCare's dry & itchy scalp formula.  Other than that, I don't use any products on a regular basis.  When I have frizz, I put a little curling wax on it and I'm good.  So, I've said all that to say that split ends are not a must in life!  Wink
