Okay, short story here: I currently use a bonded weft method, and I'm in need of some new hair SOON. I'm starting cosmetology school in a couple of weeks and I don't want to look like a fool with a jacked up glued on weave thats been used for the past 6 months. (HAHA) I'm debating whether I should stick with the wefted hair or get some stick hair to try out a Micro Tubes/Links method.

I love the idea of Micro Tubes/Links since there's no glue involved so you can reuse the hair, I'm guessing? But, honestly how well does this hold? Like, the hair stays in place from a little plastic tube that you crunch down with pliers? It doesn't sound like it would hold that well.

I would try fusion but it seems to hard and messy for myself to try. So I guess my question is... does it hold? and for how long typically? TIA! :)

I have Hairlocs, so far they've been great--they hold very well.  I have the large links & am switching to smaller links w/my next maintenance (not microlinks, but they're about half the size of what I'm wearing now) hoping they'll show less when my hair is in a ponytail (right now you can see 2-3 links when my hair is up).  I don't know if they'll hold as well, maybe someone else could give us more info?

Microlinks can hold pretty well for most people.   The secrets to it are:  use the silicone lined microbeads (I found the slip less), use the smallest diameter ring that you can get the strands and your hair into (it provides a tighter grip), and you may have to reinforce the i-tip hair with more glue to prevent shedding upon wearing.

I have found that almost all commerically made i-tip hair is tipped with some sort of waxy substance that breaks down with wear and tends to shed.  I now either buy wefted Bohyme and tip it myself with keratin or reinforce the commerical i-tip hair with nail glue before installing.

Keep in mind when you go to reuse i-tip hair, you most likely will have to use some glue and heat to 're-bond and  re-roll' the hair, due to the shedding I just mentioned and also the fact that when you crimp it, it gets squished flat, and won't fit into the ring again for the second application.

Ohhh. sounds like a lot of work to me. Perhaps I will just stick with the wefted hair (wefts cost cheaper anyway!) and invest in some really good glue like LG... I've been slacking on getting since I have to order it. But according to Sherri that stuff holds for a long time for her. I usse the latex glue from sallys and it is a PAIN in the BUTT! (I still have some tackiness on the left side of my head from my uninstall a week ago)

Then after i finish basic cosmo I can go into hair extensions and then learn EVERYTHING and ANYTHING about hair extensions and probably do them myself for next to nothing or have a student-friend do it. But by then I should hope my natural hair is atleast 18" long anyhow hehe. its pretty short :P
