I had my highlight/lowlight regrowth touchup this week and my hairdresser changed the lowlight to a little darker brown. She said she was doing 2 lowlights for every 1 highlight. 8 weeks ago, I swear she said she was placing the foils 2 highlights for every 1 lowlight. Back to back. Anway, I am more brown than blonde now and I don't know why she did it like that. It stills looks good, but I need more blond around my face. She said she is trying to keep a pattern in my hair that she can follow every visit and that this is a good change for this time of year - then we can go back to more blonde in the spring. My questions are:
1.) What are the advantages/ disadvantages of doing this? When she pulls more blonde in my hair in the spring won't that be damaging because it is pulling bleach over previously bleached highlights, or will this give my hair a "rest" I have never added more dark in the fall and more highlights in the summer because I like my hair to be blonde all year round. (not sure if you remember, but my hair was damaged 2 years ago and it is 90% healthy now)
2.) I went back to this hairdresser about 6 months ago after a 2 year hiatus and she has been trying to get to know my hair again for the past 4 visits. She says she is happy with the pattern we have now and it is best for my hair health if we try to follow a similar pattern.... but when I go back in 6 weeks I would like a few more blonde pieces in the front around my face. Could she just do a really low formula in those pieces to get them blonde since they are probabally blonde underneath the lowlight? She didn't use a filler or anything.
In the summer she said we could just foil the lowlights and then do everything in between blonde so that I would not have any natural showing through. She tried this in June, but only did the roots and didn't pull through to the ends because she didn't want breakage. I didn't like how it was really blond around the crown and then didn't match up with the length. She said to keep it healthy, it would be a process to do it that way... if she pulled the blond all the way to the ends their might be breakage. What do you think of this method? She said eventually it would be the most healthy for my hair because we would just be foiling the lowlights and painting on the regrowth and not foiling the entire head ( which can lead to the ends being folded over and touching the bleach at the top, resulting in breakage) I am a freak about having healthy hair and that is why she is careful to explain everything to me.
Sorry about all the questions. Thanks so much for your help.
