I am trying to go platinum and I just switched stylists because my friend was doing my hair and she left it too yellow. So the new girl that has been doing my hair said it is normal for platinums to go through a gray stage. My hair is gray in some spots and underneath my hair it is getting dark gray. She guarantees me it will wash out as the toner washes out but I'm nervous that what she is saying isn't true. She says that toning it can make it gray. Please help.

Well I know that bleached hair has the tendancy to develop yellow or brassy tones over time if it's not regularly toned, so I think if you left it a week or so the grey will go away. Maybe she left it on too long? Highly bleached hair can soak up the colour really easily. I know that if I leave toning conditioner on too long my hair has a blue tinge to it. It always washes out though so I wouldn't worry.

when i first got my hair bleached it was grayish/greenish as well. the problem was that my stylist used an ashy toner, and that freshly bleached hair really grabs onto the ash colors. next time tell her you'd like to go with a blue-violet or violet toner - these will cancel out the yellow without making the hair gray, as long as they're not on for too long.

but yes, the gray will fade!

asiabo I am totally loving your new avatar. Your hair looks amazing.

To the OP, same thing happened to me at one point. The gray did fade, but the next time I toned I left it on for less time and didn't have the gray after.
