My hair has been so dry lately I decided to try something different with my conditioner rinsing....I heated up olive oil, castor oil, and honey applied it to dry hair let it sit for for a few minutes then applied Suave Toasted Vanilla sugar over it. Rinsed and applied my leave ins and oil before airdrying and my hair has feeling so moist and the areas that were so frizzy are now clumping again.

What conditioning treats have you done to your hair that has brought it back to life despite the cold weather??

THe things I have done are similar to yours, pretty much.  My hair loves conditioner mixed with avcocooil and/or olive oil. When it doesn't work I add honey.

I used to use Shea Butter, but it was too greasey for my hair. It always left residue on my hair.

I love Ojon. I steered away from it for a while because it is expensive but my hair really loves it. So to me it is worth the price Wink

i've been stuck on shiseido tsubaki deep conditioning treatment. it can get greasy, but especially when the weather starts to make my hair crackle it seals the splits and adds a lot of gloss.

Thanks for the replies ladies, I have some avocado oil that has been sitting in my pantry I will try to incorporate it in my deep conditioning. :-)

Well I read a thread about using yogurt so I experimented this week by adding about 2 tbsp to my Dominican protein c*cktail and boy am I hooked! It elongated my curls, added shine, made the hair very soft and tangle/frizz free! I have been playing with my ng all week lol

I use the Ojon restorative treatment as a leave- in, moisturizer, pre-poo treatment and oil to top deep cond treatments and the Tawaka shampoo and conditioner. It smells really good too Wink

African American is naturally dry, therefore it needs to be kept moisturized.  whenever you are doing a oil treatment, the hair should be shampooed at least once, the reason why is when hair is clean and damp, the oil penetrate much better than dry hair, certain hair are not porous it make it difficult for any thing to penetrate, by damping the hair,it helps to open it up in order for the oil to penetrate.  It is a good thing to get oil treatments during the winter, but i also believe, we must not use conditioners on top of conditioners after the treatments and dry it out even more and also clog up the pores and create a different problem.  Also african american hair should not be air dried.    I am answering your question without really knowing what you hair texture is really like, because african american hair has a large variety in texture and sometimes certain of these textures need to be treated differently.   I hope i was helpful.

Make sure that you deep condition weekly for 30-60 mins with heat. You can also add egg white and glycerin to your deep conditioner. I hope this helps.

LOVINGMI,
Great tips for the hot oil treatment, but what do you mean A A hair shouldn't be air dried??? I air dry my hair all the time and find that it helps prevent breakage and split ends. Hair is most susceptible to damage when it is wet, especially A A hair. I would actually recommend that most ladies with 4a, 4b hair air dry. Please explain why you think otherwise.

Airdrying works for me...most of the time. Just not in the winter if I plan to go out as soon as as Iwash. However...it has worked for me and I plan to continue doing it.

Besides...I think when you airdry you preserve more moisture than if you were to blow dry your hair.
