Now, here are my thoughts: while the row by row method was much quicker, it also seemed very damaging to my hair.  She used a fine tooth comb & was not at all gentle.  She had a pail behind me (almost like she didn't want me to see) to collect all the hair I lost, & there were times when she actually hurt me!  I also shed a great deal & lost many many strands between maintenances.  She charged $300 per hour & took 2 hours.

 

My 2nd maintenance, done strand by strand, was very gentle.  I could barely feel her removing & replacing the links.  I didn't lose any hair at all (no pail behind me, no clumps on the floor ).  So far I've only lost 3 strands & shed a little the day after the maintenance but not at all since.  She charged $200 per hour & took 3.5 hours.  So the cost was about the same.

 

What are the experts' thoughts on this?  Miss Honey, Metalgirl, Tangles, etc., what do you guys do?  What do you think is the best, least damaging, most cost effective method?

 i am VERY gentle-

the main thing i am doing is making sure that each strand at all times- has equal amounts of your hair in each cylinder, this way it is equal weight to support the extension strand. the natural shedding comes right out,

my clients never experience tension or tangling or breakage.

When i do maintance i charge hourly too- def. not $200 or $300 per hour. Also i always have an assistant that i pay and i use a timer. to do a full head- about 200 strands, takes about 45 mins to hour and half.

Some people do a full take down each maintance, some dont, my opinion, is if you take it all down, and re install, it is no difference then doing it either strand by strand or row by row, espicially if all the hair is with extensions. It all goes back in cylinders anyway. Its all in the care that is taken and the equal weight for each strand.

if you are happy with the second outcome, then i would say stick with her.

 

 

 

 I agree with Tangles. Go with the stylist that makes you feel more comfortable. I don't think it matters whether they take out a row at a time or a strand at a time as far a damage is concerned. That shouldn't matter. I think it was just the care the stylist used while removing them is what you noticed.

 I think $200-$300 an hour is far too much to spend for maintenance. I paid $40 for the total maintenance and that was with keratin fusion. $600 is outrageous in my opinion. Did you mean that they charged hourly and it totaled $200?

 

 

 

OMG!  $40?  For real?  It was $200 an hour for 2-4 hours, so I spent about $600 both times (not including tip).  Every price I've gotten in my area has been at least $200 an hour.  Granted I live in one of the most expensive areas in the country, but still.........not so expensive that it should be that much of a difference.  I WISH I was paying $200 for maintenance!  I'm at the point where I can't wait for my hair to grow back so I can take the extensions out, they're taking pretty much all of my disposable income.
