Someone asked a similar question but mine is a bit different. Considering color...As most of you know I wanted white hair.... and have been struggling to make a solid white all round..and not succeseding in the ROOT department. Anyways I decided the other day to go a shade darker than the ususal color I use.
I was using Ultra Light ASH thinking that would make my hair white. Well it was toning my processed ends to an ash white
 . Which was fine, but once my hair washed out it turned brassy in most areas except on teh sides where it stays white, no matter what I do.Anyways I decided that maybe I should try a shade darker... I put in Ultra Light NATURAL blonde... well hello white hair! It actually made my hair whiter... a bit more natural white than a fake white.... anways. I acutally was aiming fora bit more yellow. I am not getting the solid color of white all over and am giving up, and thought I'd just go toa yellowy blonde. Like a ginger or soemthing.... What could I use OTC to get a gingery blonde?
Here is what happened with the Ultra Light NATURAL blonde. Roots and sides. And of course when it is down it looks much more solid, if my hair is up, my roots are gingery and then it goes white. My husband likes it, but he's a man and he doesn't notice hair color at all!!!! And I usually work what I got so it's not abig deal, but I really would like to try something new.

I don't know a whole lot about dyes, especially home dyes, but I do really love you with the slightly darker shade of blonde. I've talked to a lot of people who have problems with their blonde roots. To make sure they're the right colour make sure you've lightened them enough (inside of a banana) then apply a toner to dye hair and just the root area. You can leave it up to 30 minutes (but not if the hair is porus, but the root area usually isn't) and then comb through to the roots and leave 1-5 minutes. I blonde toners, and have heard great things about the Gloldwell Mousses aswell (in violet or pearl).
I really love both those shades of blonde, my suggestion would be don't go darker, but I know how much work blonde can be. Good luck! ------------- |

| i personally like the darker root look but its personal choice . your best option is to put a toner on to the colour you want then match your roots to it which will be annother experience!!. or you could bleach your roots to the color of your hair then tone it all down together. remember when choosing your toners that ash on white takes it grey ish so id avoid it . |

Stupid hairboard, bumped me out. I had this long post all ready. Anyways here is the real picture. My hair is dirty, and unblown dry. You can see what I'm dealing with. If its clean and blowndry you can't see the orange cause it get's covred up. Anywhoo...what should I do? Bleach the back and then tone with the natural? or try a different toner? What? (I am not using real toners, i use haircolor OTC. I just use them as toners. Like usign ashes to tone down reddish tones. Do you have someone helping you color? That back part looks like not enough bleach/toner was applied. You need someone back there slopping it on for you. I think it needs more bleach, light bleach for a short time. It's too hard to do that back yourself. I love your white tones, very nice! |

i would also apply the colour to this part first if its the one you struggle with the most. did that part of your hair previously have another colour on it???? that may be why its not taken as well. its easily fixable but i would go to a proffessional as it wont take much to lighten it up a few shades |

I have trouble with proffesionals they never want to do it the way I want. I don't have anyone to help me with the back. I ususually just WING IT and hope I get stuff on it. HAHA.... I am going to try lifting it once more... and no actually that was virgin hair in the back ther where the orange is... my hair is naturally a dark brown so that's why it may have trouble lifting and I always have trouble with theback lifting as much as the part........ meh. ------------- ~* Bambi Lee *~ |

| mmm its a tricky one , let us know how you get on. the thing with home dyes is they come as they are where as in a salon or with salon products you are able to mix different coulours and levels of developer . maybe you need a stronger product to lighten. |

Gingery or yellow implies more warmth.
What you can do is mix two colors together. However, don't mix different brands or types (meaning a cream with a liquid or a L'Oreal with a Clairol brand). If you like natural and want it warmer then add some warmth of the same level or 1 shade lighter or darker. Try mixing the Ultra Light natural with a Light warm and see what you get. If you like the color and it's a matter of tone then sometimes a bit of one and the other together makes a big difference, in my opinion, lol.
Natural is usually a mix of all three colors, yellow, red, and blue. Warm implies more yellow or red. Ash implies more green or blue (for lighter colors, purple). Use the color wheel when considering mixing colors.

I know this is a stretch, but is it possible that you that you aren't getting those particular spots in the back covered evenly with dye and maybe it's drying out before it gets finished? I don't know...too bad you can't get some bleach over there, it really works the best, especially on that back under part stuff.

| do you want to make the yellowish tones white? I thought you wanted a more gingery blonde... if you do, try sunsilk blonde colorboost, it adds yellowins tones to your hair and is a great temporary fix. But be careful, Im sure it would really absorb into white hair. |

I want some color... cause I can't seem to get the white to stay anymore... not in the roots or all over. It just stays on the sides on top... cause I think there just isn't any more color to be had in that hair!
This is dumb... my hair washed out... which is fine cause now I have yellow tones, but still have the dumb white too...maybe I'm just being picky. Has anyone watched Ellen? Did you see Carmen electra on it (I ADORE HER!) anyways... i want her color. It was light but had color... like ginger...mmmm.... anywhoo I am going to see if I can find it.

Okay I'm going to stop complaining. I dunno why I keep seeing stuff that isn't there.... Part of being a woman I guess. If I do put it up... it DEF looks different, but i don't ever wear it up so I don't need to worry... lets see if I can go a whiel without bothering with it!? | Bambi your hair looks great! I don't see a color difference. Perhaps a shadow near your roots, but I think that is more of a shadow. Even if not, it blends nicely. I would leave your hair alone for now. Even your ends look in good condition. I really don't think you need to change a thing. |

| I know you said that you didnt want to go to a hairdresser but maybe you could just get a 2-3 foils at the back where it is orange , or get the same dye and get a freind to help you just do the orange bits .... next time you do it use another mirror to look at the back while applying it and always start at the back when applying dyes, thats what I do... and if you leave the orange you will make it harder next time to match the orange color as well as your roots.... just trying to help, well whateva makes you happy thats the main thing |

Laceydon... as to why my hair is still in such good shape.. I HAVEN'T a bloody clue. If I did. I'd so tell ya. I always go to the mall and see girls who get their hair highlighted really really light and you can tell it's damaged it's all pours and dry. I have actually tried FRYING my hair to just get it to backcomb cause it's so smooth that it just falls out of a back comb. It could be cause I use home kits, maybe they aren't as bad on hair as salon stuff caaue it must be stronger then OTC. And I wash my hair every other day and condition it whenever I shower. With a one year old, it doesn't seem to be as often as you'd LIKE! haha.
And I don't use products either...hairspray, anything... I dunno. It's a MYSTERY!!! I do blowdry it ever so often and straighten it... so I really don't know!

Hello Marylou. I use a multiple of brands.
I stick to using Loreal' Blondisse's or whatever it's called. I guess it has straonger lightening power..., and I used to stick to using EXTRA LIGHT ASH BLONDE.
I could only get that color in that brand. Now I'm using EXTRA LIGHT NATURAL BLONDE... (Which I can get in Nice n' Easy)it is apparently a neutral color, inbetween the purple and red toner scale...
I bleach my hair to lift the color out (since I am naturally very dark) and then put in either or of the two colors...
So Loreal' Blondisse (the last word is spelled wrong, but if you go to the drugstore you can find it. you'll know it when you see it.) and then Extra Light Ash Blonde, or Natural blonde, whichever you may need.
