Hey guys, Im new here and I wanted to join cause this seems like a good place to get some good advice.

Im 22 and Ive never fully dyed my hair, Ive always just highlited my dirty blonde hair with blonde highlites and have been pulling off the blonde quite well.
BUT as much as I like the blonde, I have been itching for a change and have been contemplating dying my hair brown for a long time, not just brown but a nice auburn brown. My original hair dresser didnt want me to go brunette cause she thinks I look good as a blonde so I didnt change. But one of my friends from work is a hairdresser and she thinks it would look good and is willing to do it on me.

However Im nervous that I wont be able to pull off brown... though a lot of people are saying I could - just as many are saying I look great blonde! Im very indecisive, as you can tell!
My main concern is, going back to blonde after dying it brown. The hairdresser told me she would only use a semi-permenant colour, so it would fade and it would be easier to bring back the blonde but the whole process makes me scared of ruining my hair.

I just feel like Ive wanted to do it for so long that I should just do it and stop wondering!

This is me (the blonde)

Any thoughts, advice, opinions?

I think you are stunning as a blonde....

You know what you should do though?

Go to a beauty supply store that also sells wigs and try some on in brunette (close to the color and style you want)
If you cant stand how it looks,or just cant get use to it,then it may not be a good idea.
It's a fun way to try out a hair color without actually doing it to see if you will like it.

If you want to go brunette, more power to ya! You could always get highlights again in the summer.
But once again, you look very nice with blonde hair!

The blonde is gorgeous. It's so hard to go lighter after dying it dark (trust me), so if you must go for a semi!

ahh! stunning is way too nice, but thanks.
Problem is, ive alllllllllllways been this blonde, its never changed and Im getting a little tired of it.
Like I said, my hair dresser said she would put in a semi hair colour so it would fade and it would be easier to bring back the blonde.
Because Ive been this blonde, a lot of people think that the brown would look really good, especially since i have light eyes..no? I want a nice brown with reddish undertone, auburn.

AhhH! what to do, what to do!
If I dont do it, I will always wonder. But i I do it, I might hate it!

Semis don't always come out, and you could have a heck of a time getting back to your blonde. I agree with the idea of a wig, at least initially. Perhaps even purchase one and wear it when you go out etc. to see how you like it.

Honestly I wouldn't dye over your gorgeous hair. You look great as a blonde.

eeek! you guys are telling me not to dye but I think deep down ive already decided to! Its just something Ive wanted to do for so long. My only concern is going back to blonde in the spring time.

Well go try on a wig...if you like it and feel comfortable,go for it.

I have to agree with zaxwrit though...semi's are color depositing only (they contain no peroxide to lighten) so sometimes the color will stick to the hair pretty strongly.(but if hair is porous,it fades quickly too)

If you want to go lighter for spring, get highlights and do it gradually.

I understand the need for change, believe me! I DO think a reddish brown with green eyes would look nice too.
Whatever you do,I wish you luck and I hope you really like it!girlpower

i spoke to my hair dresser and she told me that i would probably have to go in twice for highlights to get back to blonde.

I used t have reallllly long hair and I want to grow it out again, so Im liking the idea of having brown hair and then dying blonde higlights on top so the bottom tips can remain brown until they are cut off. Like a multi  tonal do, but not as stark as some people have it

I like that look, and I agree less stark is better though.

I hope you post a pic when you do it!Wink

I have an appointment a week from tomorrow, and i will for sure post a pic.
Its funny that you all like my blonde cause I think its drab and boring.  I think it only shows up that nice in photos! but its my hair colour wih highlights...ive always wanted to take it a tad lighter and so im thinking next time i go blonde, illl go further!

Wait!!! Why don't you just try some lowlights?? It's a good way to change up your haircolor without the shock of going completely dark all at once.

Definitely go with a semi or demi-permanent color that does not lift your underlying pigment. It won't fade completely back to your blonde if it is a demi though a true semi-perm that washes out in 5-7 shampoos may fade out more. If you absolutely hate the brown after a few weeks and you used a demi, you could use Color Oops hair color remover from the drugstore. It is a little drying though, which is the only setback.

Alternatively, you could go all the way back to blonde in the summer with highlights as some suggested. Why not go for it? You're actually pretty safe making the decision. You are risking a little more damage if you decide to go back to blonde but that's about it. By the way, you are gorgeous with blonde hair but certain shades of brown may look great too. I wouldn't go too dark with your skin tone.

So its a Semi the same as a demi? haha seriously is it?
My hair dresser came to the club I work at last night and told me I better not chicken out!

A semi doesn't penetrate the cuticle at all, just coats the hair. A demi penetrates the cuticle a little and uses a little bit of peroxide. A permanent penetrates all the way and uses peroxide and ammonia. A semi is more low-comittment than a demi.

You hair dresser will know what's best anyways.

I have had semis not wash out before though. Most say that if the color you chose is darker then your current color it will not wash out.
Dyed over blonde hair tends to fade fast though,so if you dont like it,I wouldnt worry.
Chances are,if you like it darker, you may have to have it colored more then once because it might fade.
