I have always used shrinkies but lately I have wanted to try out fusion on my sister.
I pre bonded the hair myself into tips just using keratin.
Then I sectioned off the bit of hair I wanted to attach the extension to, using my heat wand I then placed the tip underneath the strand of hair and fused it together, finished by rolling it between my fingers.
I let it set and gave it a tug to see how well it held and it was fine. But then I parted the real hair with the extension and pulled them apart in opposite directions and the extension came right out.
I heated it up and rolled it properly, can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?
Surely they can't come out that easily. It left the glue in my hair so the glue holds well! lol
Thanks for your help! :-)

Did you use enough keratin per tip?

The keratin needs to be fully distributed through the extension strand to prevent shedding.

The keratin needs to fully encompass the natural hair for a secure bond.

Did you wash the hair with clarifiying shampoo  at least a few times  before the install, and no conditioner?

Some glue is better than others too.

I think of all the strand extensions, fusion has the steepest learning curve and a lot depends on the quality of the bonding product.  I don't know why fusion is so popular, given the unreliable results.  I much prefer shrink links or micro rings.

I am trained in So Cap and love their glue, but I've played around with http://www.donnabellahair.com - www.donnabellahair.com and they seem to stay in well too and anyone  can buy from the website.  The So Cap bond is much smaller than the Donna Bella bond though.

The first thing that comes to my mind is either not enough keratin or not enough heat.  You need enough keratin to saturate the natural hair, as well as the extension(ofcourse).  You also need a high heat to ensure the keratin is getting melted and bubbly and liquid.  A good indication of improper heat is stringy-ness when removing the heat wand from the bond before you roll it.  It could also be that there was too much time between removing the wand and rolling the bond and the keratin cooled just enough to form a 'barrier skin'.  A cool room, sitting infront of a fan or open window or air conditioner could also be the culprite.

Were you using stick hair or U tipped hair?

Does she have oily hair? If the hair is naturally oily, the bonds will not adhere properly. The extension hair can't have alot of silicone product on it either. This will also cause problems with the bonds. The bonds will slip.

I was using stick hair that I had tipped myself, and she had washed her hair just before so it wasn't oily or anything.
Maybe I didn't put enough keratin on then, that's the only excuse I can think of cos I definetely made sure it was hot enough.
By the way I bought the kertain sticks to tip the hair from dr.locks.
I think I'll give it anohter go, this time i'll use more kertain.

Thanks for the advise evryone! :-)
