| What do you consider to be very short hair for girls ? What length is considered to be very short? For example, I overheard 2 girls at school talking about hair. This one girl said that she was getting her hair cut "very short" later that day. I was excited because this girl has beautfiul long brown hair. The next day at school, I kinda looked for her because I wanted to see this "very short" cut. I was expecting something along the lines of a buzzed high nape bob, or a short pixie, while I was hoping that she would come back with a buzzcut. But no, she just had a long bob. I guess she considers that to be very short. It looks good. But I was a little disappointed. So, I ask what is very short hair? |

As you have just learnt everybody has their own opinon on what they consider to be short.
A rule of thumb is the longer the hair, then short to that person is normally longer than a person starting out with shorter hair. Just treat it as a percentage. 50% of waist long hair is not very short, but 50% of chin length hair (in my opinon) is short. Both people are loosing 50% of there hair, so to that person it is short.
I know what you mean though as a girl i work with said the same thing and i was equally disappointed.
However when i was on holiday once the barmaid had straight blonde hair that came mid back just below the bottom of her shoulder blades. 2 days before i left she had it cut ti a chin length bob with bangs just above her eyebrows. Damn i wish i had spoken to her more so i had know then i would have taken before and after "holiday" photos, but unfortunately i did not. However she did look stunning as much as i dislike bangs they looked amazing on her. Holidays always go to fast.
Just keep your eyes open Christmas and New Year as lots of girls want something for the party season or a 'new start' so there are normally a good few makeovers in the next few weeks.

This is only a observation. When sisters and parents have long hair and one decides to go short it is very seldom is a cut that is off the neck. They seem to hold onto it as long as they could. I have been seeing and cutting a up surge of A line bobs . Most have a bob and just want someting a little different with out going to short.

So many women wear bob cuts that a bob cut isn't really considered short hair these days for a lady. That is more like medium length. Short hair would be a pixie or shorter than that on a lady. |

I need to agree with that!
If you start out with hair half down your back then a bob / A line would be short. If you came in with a chin length bob clipped up in the back and said short I would guess that would be shorter than short.
I have had ladies come in with mid length and ask for a short cut and did a very short cut and had them love it. I also had the other extreme. Taking 4" off off length is short enough.

If ladies cut their hair, even if they trim, in INDIA, she is known to have short hair And, haircutting is a taboo, a social evil here.
Still some manage to........ ------------- long hair is asset, but cutting is awesome, makes a girl look sexier, hotter, modern and gorgeous. Not? Can you kindly tell why u shy, and if u have cutting, what inspried you for it.....AISHWARYA RAI |

That is not true with women from India in the U.S.. Many of those ladies wear short hairstyles. And as I understand it from people I have met who are from India, amongst the educated classes in India, many women also wear short hairstyles. Just as they often wear modern women's clothes. The social taboo of short hair on women is more with the less educated, and more traditional people in India. I know that some women in India also shave their head for spiritual reasons. |

LadyinDiamonds, you are true, but I belong to traditional society, Sikh religion, and in Sikhism, cutting or snipping is absolutely no-no. And, about eyebrows, even this is not allowed, nor underarm shave, nor pubeshave. Hindus, not all, allow haircutting, however, and even sometimes shave off heads, for the spiritual reasons. O if I were Hindu!!! ------------- long hair is asset, but cutting is awesome, makes a girl look sexier, hotter, modern and gorgeous. Not? My opinion - Very short=pixie cut length Short= pob-like bob Medium/Mid length= around the collar bone Long= to the boob or a bit shorter, and anything longer. ------------- |

As a rule of thumb i would have to say Ally<3 has hit the nail straight on the head.
I would say this would be the average persons view in the UK too.

Short=pixie
medium=chin to shoulder
long=below shoulder

I agree with HAWG, Very short is around the ears and above the collar (or buzzed) with layers Short Above the ear lobes and to the collar with layers Medium Above the shoulder Long - below the shoulder Very long - Mid back or longer. It seems like very long is going out of style and recently Medium seems to be gaining popularity. My length is currently medium, but I plan on going much shorter in a few weeks. I am thinking of a really short side parted pixie with lots of layers. It will be a big change, but I am tired of having long hair. |
