My wife currently has a crop style (many layers, tucked behind the ears....) going to a sliced bob style (chin length) Should she just let it all grow until the shortest layer gets to the chin then cut it to the style or should I just cut the bottom - keeping that the same length until the layers catch up? Thoughts?

How does your wife feel about her hair? Are the layers bothering her or do they look shaggy?

I would say that it depends on the look she wants until she is ready for her new style. If she wants to ease into her new style have her cut the length now then every month or so cut it again until the new style is acheived. If she want to keep her current style until her hair is ready for the new cut, just get the ends trimed as need while the layers grow out... which is what I would advise giving the most bang for the buck when she changes her style... as a long time poster... you should be prepared to provide before and after pics for us...lol good luck

It also depends on her hair type. I am doing the same type of grow out but because my hair is fine and thin, growing out layers is especially painful and obvious. I have to get the layers trimmed about every other haircut or they really get stringy looking, but I always have some of the length trimmed off the back. The sides, which were the shortest, are the hardest to deal with. Sometimes no length of taken off there. If you are growing out a crop, you are trying to basically go from many lengths to all one length around the perimeter to get the basic bob shape.

I`ve just cut my long hair, with layers in it - as the layers were in that `awkward` place and it`s now bob style so it can grow one length.

I`m SO glad I`ve done it!
