If you do get a perm, be aware of a couple of things first. One, they are very damaging. The hair in the photo you showed is fairly long, so the ends will take a beating. Two, some people's hair just won't hold curl no matter what. (I've gotten perms only for them to fall out completely after a week leaving me with damage and no waves). Test strand a piece of your hair that is hidden underneath and let it go for about a week and see how it looks. If it stays, your hair will hold curl! Many people's hair does.
Be sure to check online for how to care for your perm afterwards to help keep it looking its best, and avoid common curl-losing mistakes.

I've heard the wave perm (as opposed to the tight curl perms) fall out really easily.
If your hair naturally tends to wave, after washing tie your hair in a messy loose bun. When it's dry it gives a great wave (when I try it, anyway).
