| I've been going to a salon and having my hair color done, all over color with low lights, (weave) its a blonde, color,she never said what she used. I never really thought it was, that great, just conveint. The last three visits she raised her prices until I just can't afford it any longer. So off to the drug store, I chose the Feria 110 very light beige blonde and applied it to my roots (only) didn't want to mess up, the 150.00 weave. Had to apply it twice to my roots, to get the color I wanted ,was surprised but it did blend with the rest of my hair and everyone liked it better. Here is my question. I want to add lowlights to the top part of my hair, because it did get lighter in that area,so I bought feria 82 medium ash blonde. Question? Opinion please? How do I apply it, for the best? foils? freehand? Put it on after coloring roots again? Help? |

Usually people don't add lowlights to the top, only underneath - Foils would give you chunkier darker blonde pieces of hair, and freehand will depend how much you put in one spot (can be thick or thin). I would do it after your roots the next time. Either way, be sure to test strand to avoid any accidents. If the top of your hair is white, you could wind up with the base color in the dye showing (usually blue or violet on ash blonde colors), or maybe not, its hard to say - best to test strand to make sure. | Thank you for your reply, test strands are a must I've learned my lesson in the past. When I did my roots for the first time after going to the salon, the bangs and top section seems to be more of one color than the rest of my hair. I'm nervous and want to keep it as natural looking as I can. I thought maybe a few darker tiny strands would do the trick. My color now is more of a golden blonde, that gets really light in the sun. Am trying to keep it toned down a bit. I really really appreciate your help, suggestions and feedback. |

| Doing lowlights on your own is high on the difficulty level for the aspiring home colorist. I wouldn't recommend it unless you've had some kind of training, even a highlighting/lowlighting video to watch at home. This is the kind of thing that's worth it to pay hairdressers for, in my opinion. |

Update, saturday I finally did it, had a friend do my roots with feria 110 we used foils to keep it off the rest of hair. Sunday I used a cap and pulled a few small strands through with 82 feria. just in the upper section of my hair.It really turned out better than I hoped, next time I will pull more through, was being carefull the first time. The best part today I got really brave and went for a trim, at one of the quick places, won't mention any names, and the girl working on me said, you have such a pretty hair color. Boy did that make me feel good. I can actually put some money away now that I don't have a big hair bill. |
