Hello, you gorgeous women. =]
Sooo, I have really fine and thin hair, and have wanted extensions for the longest time for thicker hair and volume, but they've always seemed so expensive =[
Then, I found this forum, and have been tempted to do them myself with fusion with hair from Donna Bella. I watched the Doctored Locks tutorials, and it seems simple enough. However, I'm really scared of all the horror stories I've been reading about and I feel like I'll mess up my own hair in my attempts.
 I was wondering if you all think this is a good idea/method for me to try by myself for the first time? Also, if there are any tips/tricks I should know for installation/checking/taking them out/etc. OH, and how will I know if I put in too much hair for my hair to handle? haha. Thank you, darlings.

| You are a much braver person than I am. I am in awe of all these women that do it theirselves. LOL I don't have any advice(I pay to get mine done lol) but I am sure some of the DIY'ers can chime in to help. Good luck! I have(had) fine, thin hair too and I am loving my extensions! |

Heathurrr, Welcome! I am a newbie too. I am going to install extensions on my daughter this weekend after researching extensions for a while. She also has fine, thin hair. I am planning on using Liquid
Gold with Satin Sticks and making my own skin wefts for the top and sides. I think if I am careful everything will turn out all right with installing and removal. I learned a lot from this forum and Hair Extension Forum 101.

I have silicone lined microlinks. I've had them for a week(today actually lol) and I love them! I would never be brave enough(or have the patience) to do them myself.

Hi Heathurrr, welcome to HB! Its a great forum with alot of information and great people that will help you along the way. Fusion would be one of the harder methods to attempt on your own as a newbie, and can also be very damaging if done incorrectly. Although it can be done. If you are certain, after doing your research that you want to do fusion I would suggest that you get yourself a mannequin/pratice head and PRACTICE first and master the technique. And be sure to get a great mirror set up so you can see the back of your head well. Clean/neat sectioning is very cruicial, otherwise you will certainly experience damage. I would suggest starting in the Hair Extensions Facts and Faqs forum here on HB

Personally, I would suggest opting for another method than fusion. There are easier methods than fusion, especially for someone just starting out as a DIYer, and given the fact that you say you have fine thin hair, you may not be able to achieve the volume you want with an individual strand method, and a weft method may be a better alternative.

Fusion is my prefered method but I think the glue bonded are the easiest and fastest methods. I believe most of our bonded girls do the tape method. To me sew-ins give you a greater sense of security because you don't have to worry about pieces falling out or slipping out.
If you decide to go with the fusion, let me know and I'll try to walk you through. You can also do a search on fusion, we've discussed it extensively.

Hi I just got my donna bella extentions put in three weeks ago by a hairstylist, My hair is holding up well but I keep losing strands of hair and to my horror my own hair has been coming out by the roots!! I have lost a total of 35 so far, im going back wed to get them put back in but im afraid this hair that i have lost by the roots will not grow back its only a few strands but it still scares me the extentions seem to be hanging on just barely and my own hair is having a hard time holding it. I dont think i would do this method again. just thought this might help with your decsion.

Oh No Chicken! that's terrible to hear. It sounds like your stylist added too much hair onto your own. it's too heavy. You should definitely tell her this because she should fix it. YOu do not want to lose your hair for extensions!!!!  ------------- Love clip-ins and tape! |
