Subject: Another blending question

Hello everyone.  The recent questions on blending as brought a question I would like to ask.  I am growing my own hair out from a shorter cut.  I have worn extensions (2 sets) since October.  My own hair is now about 7" on top, and less around my neckline.

As my hair gets longer and the extensionist blends my extensions will my own natural hair get caught up in the blending and therefore delay the growing out process?  In other words, will my own hair also get cut while she is blending?  I also have my hair trimmed (and colored) during my maintenance appointment.   Would those lengths in my natural hair be something that would get cut to that length anyway if my own hair were longer and I was not wearing extensions?   Awkwardly phrased question.  I hope you understand what I am asking.

Caly

if the stylist is careful, she shouldnt cut your own hair. if u didnt have extensions, your hair should be trimmed on the edges about every 8 weeks or so.
its ok if your own hair gets trimed. as long as she isnt cutting off more then u want- to let hair grow and keep it healthy- your own hair should be trimmed about a 1/4 in. each time

I never cut my own hair when I layer my extensions. I trim my natural hair before putting the extensions in, and then just razor cut layers into the extensions after the install.

When using wefts I usually cut in the extensions before install. It seems it comes out more uniform than it does when I cut it on the client. I rarely cut the bottom weft and cut the top weft the shortest to blend. Sometimes I only need to cut the top weft. With 7" in. hair I would suggest using at least 3 rows.

Hmmm....that's a great tip, Moki! I may try this. But what do you use to secure the wefts so you can cut them? Do you pin them to a head or something like that? Or maybe clip them to a hanger?

I usually razor like Sherrie mentioned; works pretty good, although I'm never sure whether I should do it on wet hair or dry!
