Hello all,

I colored my hair last night using Wella ColorCharm 6R. It came out lighter and not as rich as I expected... I'm looking for a deeper auburn. How long do I need to wait before coloring over and do I need to pre-treat my hair before doing so?

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No need to wait just remember to take into consideration what color your hair is now.

Underlying pigment + dyed colored + next dyed color = final result Don't forget to think about the colorwheel.

Oh one more thing...I hear that Chestnut in the Miss Clairol brand is a pretty reddish brown color. Don't forget to take into consideration of what you already have and strand test by all means before doing the entire head.

Thanks Rebekah,

My colored hair is somewhere between orange and yellow-orange on the color wheel and the underlying pigment is a medium brown, so where does that leave me? I don't necessarily want to neutralize my color, only make it a bit darker and richer, so according to the color wheel what would you recommend I do?

So your hair is orangey golden? I think the red you added is giving you the orangey color. Also, it's possible you used a dye that was too light for your hair. A good rule of thumb is to not use a color any lighter than 2 shades your natural color. If you hair is medium brown you should go only to a light brown dye.

check these swatches out. What level/color does your hair resemble?

If you want it darker and richer then add a darker color to the top, but consider that you will need to neutralize, imho, the color to make it look pretty. Try strand testing 36D MOONLIT BROWN, with a bit of 203RR. Try mixing half and half or 3/4 to 1/2. STRAND TEST and use 20 vol. I'm not sure what red you wanted but it seems like you want a RED RED, so try the 206RR with the 36D too. I'm not sure how it will work but try and see. Good luck and I hope this helps.
