I'm surprised no-one's cottoned on to this, but it seems GP has cut her hair to shoulder length. For me, it's a lot better as I wasn't admiring the "Shakespearean Lady with Lute".

For me, Fat, the length made Gwyneth's hair somewhat impressive. She never really fixed it much, though. Overall, the layering and probable shortening does nothing to improve matters. Best, Bob Ouch

I've always thought she needed to find a brush.  Here's another look at her new do

Here's a couple of long hair pictures from days gone by

And from Sliding Doors (when she went short)

Ok well. Kramer said it best. I'm really starting to hate opening these threads of late. Can someone spare me the details and put (name of actress) Cut short or still long. LOL. Thanks.

I can't remember a time when i've seen so many actresses go short. It seems like nearly all of the post are about actresses cutting their hair. It is sad to see Gwyneth follow this disturbing trend.

It so often looks unfixed because its to thin and fine to be as long as she generally keeps it.  I love to disagree, Bob cutting it shorter and adding layers will do everything to improve it!  Another few inches shorter and she might even be able to have a style other than the 60's love child look she has sported for years.  Best, Hal

Still prefer the long haired princess she once was.

Thanks for the pic illhl. I don't think there is any comparison between the pic you posted and footmoogas pic. I have no idea why she chose that awful short style. We can only hope she will grow her hair long again.

As much as I loved Gwyneth with long hair -- obviously -- it would be a lot easier to hate this new hairstyle if she looked awful in it. She doesn't. She still looks gorgeous. Come on. Admit it.

I think it's worth mentioning that on people.com's website, under the "what's her best look" section that 66% have voted in favor of her shorter cut...i'm actually surprised at that. I didn't think there were that many wonks out there voting!

Not sure about long vs short but I prefer her hair wavy to straight, both the long wavy picture and the short picture look amazing.

Better, but she still clings to that center part and one-length style, when the rest of the world moved on years ago. Interesting.

She's one of those actresses who I always think looks better in her movie roles ("The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Sliding Doors"), when she's styled for a character, then when she's left to her own devices.

I'd also suggest she take off that pillow case she's wearing and put on something flattering.

Keeping the one-length style would make growing it out much simpler, so she may be keeping that option open.  She seems to be a "long hair" at heart.  I think she only had short hair around the time of "Sliding Doors."

I don't know, Hal. I don't look at that hairstyle and think "better." It looks like she just decided on a length and said, "chop it there." She's one of those celebs that every time I look at her I'm going to think, "man she looked great with long hair."

Regarding her knees, Fatmoo, Gwyneth suffered from a "bum knee," which turned out to be a broken leg, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe that had something to do with something. At least she shaves her legs.

Yes, she’s Gwyneth - blond, lean and lovely by dint of DNA. But she sure makes crutches and pajamas look good. Notice in the photo of her in “real life” - with her daughter, Apple - she’s wisely padded the top of the crutches for a little relief.

I think this cut give her hair life... before, unless it was from a photo shoot, it was thin, stringy, pinned up or pulled and almost always in need of a brush.  Seems she is enjoying it too.

Hal, as much as I was tempted to let your observation go without comment, I just couldn't.

1. If Gwyneth likes her new haircut so much, why is she nearly frowning in the photos above? If anything, maybe she likes it better curlier than whatever style you'd call that above, eh?

2. Taking your logic to the next step, is Martha MacCallum pouting because she doesn't like her trim? She seemed to be smiling all the time when her hair was a tad longer.

3. What about Ann Curry here? Is she disgusted that she no longer gets major props and big ratings for cutting her hair and donating it to Locks of Love?

4. Is Jennifer Connolly in shock because she just put her finger in a live socket?

http://img184.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=27706_Jennifer_Connelly_-_Unknown_Shoot0006_123_529lo.jpg">

5. Is Rhona Mitra bored with her beautiful hair? She looks bored to me. And she did cut it.

I could go on, but it's 2 a.m. and I've gotta get up in five hours. Besides, I've probably pissed off your legions of supporters who will no doubt team up on me, even though I'm just having a little fun.

As for Gwyneth, she's probably getting tons of compliments about her hair when it's all curly. That -- plus the attention she's getting -- no doubt put that smile on her beautiful face.

Sorry I caused to you waste so much time for so little gain.  I said "enjoy" simple because several times in a short time, her hair has been down and actually looks nice too.  I should not have guessed at her emotional state... my bad.

To a greater point Miss Paltrow made ET's Hottest Hair Trends of 2008!  In fact she was #1.  According to them the hottest new trend is cutting 3 or 4 inches!  Shall we all hope it sweeps the nation just like the Pob has!!!!!!

Kramer if I knew your cell phone number I would called to tell you second I saw it!  They rattled off 1/2 dozen or so stars that have done it, A. Jolie, C. Z. Jones, N. Morallas... Platrow and so on!!!!!!!

Wowhoooo!!!!!!!  Let the good times roll!!!!!!

A. The report said "2 to 3 inches."
B. It was only the fifth most popular trend behind: 1) add vertical curls; 2) that awful crop cut; 3) add a headband; and 4) the always original go blonder.
C. Most celebs are not doing any of the above. They're fine at status quo.
Yet, these are trends?
D. I think many of those that change hairstyles do it because they want the attention. Most of the babes we talk about have changed their hairstyle one way or the other.
E. What about bangs? With all of the celebs that have gone to bangs (Underwood, Bilson, Kate Hudson, et al.), how did they leave off that trend?

When I see photos like this, I think to myself, geez, if all of Gwyneth's photos were headshots cut off just above the shoulder people might think she still had long hair. If only I could convince myself that was the case. She looks so pretty with straight sleek hair without roots.

Just saw Iron Man yesterday, in which Gwyneth plays Tony Stark's assistant Pepper Potts. Her hair looks REALLY good in it, I thought, with pretty much the style I'd like her to have in real life: soft sideswept bangs, bouncy waves hanging just below the shoulders, and worn in a variety of styles (up, pulled back, down with volume) through the film. Oh, and it was light red, which I don't think is better than blonde, but did look great too.

Gwyneth is one of those actresses whose hair I think almost always looks better in film, when someone chooses a style for her character, than it does it real life, when she (presumably) chooses it. Watching Iron Man, I couldn't help but silently ask her, Don't you see how great that style looks on you? Why don't you want that in real life?

Oh well lets see how long it will take her this time to grow it out again or maybe just maybe she will keep it short.

I fully agree that it works, and besides, no one can just leave their hair long their entire life, right??
Just my opinion, but I was getting a bit tired of seeing her with long hair only-- nice change I'd say.

She just won't give up that middle part and flat, straight, cheek-hugging shape, will she?

I'd trade almost any of Gwyneth's personally-chosen styles for almost any style she's been given for a movie role, from Mr. Ripley to Iron Man...

So do you think someone is giving her bad advice or do you think she really thinks it looks good.  I'm mainly referring to the center part thing - though I am not a fan of the few extra long wispy pieces in front either.

I honestly don't know, and I may be in the minority, but from my perspective she's clinging to a texture and general shape, short or long, that's unflattering, worn-out, and several years behind the trends curve. For a woman who's often been considered a style icon, that doesn't quite make sense to me. For a woman who could look absolutely stunning with a more updated, flattering style (which for me would be banged in some way, side-parted, layered, and have volume to it) it's quite a major bummer.

At our local Boscov's, at a cosmetics counter, they have a looped film of Gwyneth with her beautiful long locks. Now, THAT was something! Now, I find the front length distracting, not attracting. The bob itself is all right, but the old length lent glamour. It catches my eye every time on that tape. Best, Bob Star

she seems to have joined the bobbed bunch a bit too late huh?

Long with BLUNT bangs or ALL cut to lip length, I cant decide my favorite!

I'd say it's more than joining too late. It's how she does the bob. Plenty of people do the bob with a side part, bangs of some length, so it's more cleared from the face, and tapered layers in back. Even when she chooses the bob, a relatively-new style she chooses the variation that keeps the severe middle part, flatness, and straightness encroaching on her face. In other words, she chooses a variation on a new style that still clings to her old, outdated, unflattering style. That's the part I don't get.

For a contrast, check her out in the party scene of Iron Man. Red, banged, with soft waves and curls to her shoulders. Not only fantastic (IMHO) but far more in keeping with today's trends, I think. I secretly wonder how SHE can look at herself with that style and not see how beautiful she looks, and know it reflects today's trends, and then not want to keep at least some element of it for her off-screen look.

I have never understood why Gwyneth Paltrow is considered a style icon.  She is skinny and blonde and that is about the extent of it.

I agree that she has tried to go a new direction but is keeping some fundamentals that she just needs to get rid of as they are not really flattering.  That said I think that lately she has taken a pretty dramatic step forward both on her hair and the way she dresses/overall look, etc. in being younger and more fashion forward.  I hope she continues the trend.

This is her best hair in a long time.  It is not perfect but it is also not nearly as bland, simple, and often messy as it has been in recent years.

She was hot in Iron Man.  I'm really suprised she didn't keep the red.
