Good Morning Ladies,
I FINALLY decided to purchase a lf from BestLaceWigs instead of Xinyi Hair Products. Xinyi only had stock yaki units in #1 and #1b and my natural hair color is (was) brown. So Bestlace had a #4 in yaki that is 14" long. I just can't do the 16" or more hair. I should receive it by Friday and I will post pictures.
I plan to spend the weekend attempting to apply it. Hopefullly I can wear it to church on Sunday and put away those sad hats and scarfs I've been wearing!
I've already received my order of Mity-Tite, TDI Knot Sealer and C-22 Solvent, so I'm ready!
Please wish me luck, ladies, and I may need some emergency advice, so please stand by.
Thank you all for the very helpful info that I have gained from 'lurking' around this board and BHF!!!
To all, have a Blessed Day!

I am new to LF myself, but I can tell you give yourself plenty of time and patience to apply it. If you have children send them away (I can guarantee you that they will need/want something and that goes for your husband to) LOL! Don't be afraid just view it as a challenge, I can gaurantee when you get the app down just right, it will be worth it! Enjoy I can't wait to see pics

Thanks for encouragement, JL! I need it. Luckily my children are grown (27 and 29) so I won't have that particular problem. My partner does not live with me and I've already put him on notice that I will be busy this weekend trying to do something about my hair (or lack thereof). So, he's cool with me 'taking some space' just so long as he's the first to see what I've done!

Thanks Sexi! I've read all the post on this board and BHF and i've watched Ms Lola's videos on YouTube, so hopefully I am prepared. It's just that these days, my tolerence is low, so I hope I don't get frustrated and say 'forget this'!!! I know that I will need to practice, so I'm getting prepared mentally.

You will be fine ChildofGod. BHM and the Ms.Lola videos on YouTube are what I used to get started as well and it's gone great. We'll be here if you have questions.

Thanks so much, Curlygirl, I can use all the help I can get. I don't know if the products I have purchase will work for me and, based on what i have read, they may not. Trial and error seems to be the key!

I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and don't know anyone that does applications. Any one out there in this area that can steer me in the LF application direction?
Thanks so much!

Hey CoG,
Congratulations on getting your 1st LF and welcome to the club. Just take your time and be patient. I met a girl yesterday at the gym who told me that she was frustrated with her LF-it was her 1st unit, she said she could never clean it properly and the edges always looked a little white and crusty. I told her to just take her time, when cleaning applying, etc . . . especially as a 1st timer. I recommend that u dont do everything at once because if u mess up, take a long time or make a mistake u will get frustrated. For example-: tape your ears back, prep your hairline and go do something else (fold the laundry), then 30 minutes later go put your 1st layer of adhesive around your perimeter -now while it is drying go do something else-like watch a show or put another load of laundry in, now 30 minutes later go put on another layer of adhesive-while that dries go surf the internet or something. U see what I mean, I find when I stand in the bathroom and try to just do it all because I am so anxious and excited about putting on my hair, I end up making more mistakes and looking like Planet of the Apes in the end. So just take your time and dont rush. It sounds lilke you are already on the right path by setting some time aside for yourself.

I agree!
Especially the part about looking like Planet of the Apes!! My first app I thought I was taking it slow and being patient... but now that I look back, I was a bit impatient because I really wanted to see how it would look! So, the wig was lopsided.... I had hair glued next to my left eye, so I just wore my hair over that eye! Yep! Left it like that for two days! I spent an hour of hard work putting that lopsided app together and you better believe I was gonna get my use out of it. Just call me Ape Woman!
(but not anymore)

Ladies, thank you all for your confidence in me! I do plan to take my time and I really like the idea of leaving the bathroom and doing laundry, watching tv, etc. That should help! I know I'm excited and nervous, and hope that it looks the way it did in the pics. I just don't want to be disappointed.
OT: Does the MN and Sulfur 8 really work for hair growth? I am soooo tempted to try it! I really would like to re-grow my own hair and just wonder if this would have any affect. I do have new growth, not long enough to braid, but long enough to see! Any advice on hair growth is appreciated [IMG]smileys/smiley2.gif" align="middle" />

MN does work!!!! I started my MN, shea butter, peppermint oil, jojoba oil, and castor oil mix in Dec 07 and my growth has been excellent! Check out my fotki for my progress!!! Get a good regimen going for your hair type and stick to it. The more you keep your hands out of it the better.

i don't know i don't read the other board.. but they are listed with a DISCLAIMER that i've never used them.. most of those i put in the newbie thread as unknown vendors are at your own risk. some people complain about the regular vendors that are tried and proven and want to venture out so i gave them that option but most of them are vendor's that creeped onto the other board and i had to give the boot, but i bookmarked their sites just in case..

Thank you Sexi!
ChildofGod, two ways I can tell when synthetic hair has been added to a LF is by its texture and also when you try to apply heat to it the synthetic hair starts to melt. I hope this helps.

Well, Miss Thang arrived this morning and the first thing I did was plug in the ole curling iron to see if she was human hair. Well, she is! I curled the entire unit and there was no smoking, melting or burning! I guess I lucked out. She's had her knots sealed and her first wash. She's now drying in front of the fan. I'm still hoping to apply for church tomorrow. Wish me luck, ladies!

Hi Shonita, I have not applied yet. Seems I have a touch of the flu! After church and cooking dinner for family and friends on Easter Sunday, I was really tired. After a visit to my doctor yesterday, it's the flu and I did have a flu shot. Hopefully later this week I will get the enegry to apply and post pics!
Right now, she's just sitting on the vanity, looking purty

Ok, this lf whupped my butt!!! First, I tried to dye the roots, after 45 minutes and no luck. I re-read the newbie thread. So, I go to Wal-mart and buy Ritz dye remover. I dipped and dipped and dipped... Then I bleached the roots again. Still ants crawling all around.
So, I try another dye remover bath and more bleach! Still have ants only now, it is no longer a light yaki and it's no longer #4, it's more like a bright orange!!!
I don't know what I'm doing, so if anyone has any ideas on how to correct my boo-boos, I would really appreciate it. Right now, I'm just lost and disguested...

oh girlfriend pray over that unit, then attempt again but i wouldn't do it right now.. did you try to bleach the knots after the rit's dye? try the bleach that breh suggested ..

Yes, I did bleach again after the 2nd dye-remover bath. I used L'Oreal super bleach or something like that. I guess I missed the brand Breh mentioned. Is it in the newbie thread?

Ok, this wig tried to whup me, but I won! It was way longer than what I ordered, so I cut it. I bleached the knots and the roots! I did the ritz dye, which removed the yaki and made it straight! I dyed the lf black, and the roots! I purchased self-tanning spray and re-dyed it. I then permed it on rods, it was too curly/silky, so I permed it again using the 'how to make yaki' thread. The color was too dark, so I re-dyed it dark brown. And I cut it again. Now it looks great! No ants and no tangles. I have applied it twice now with Mighty Tight, but that is so messy. I found a place in Irving and bought BlueLiner tape. That seems to work better. I will take pics this weekend and post them.
I have spend HOURS getting to this point, good thing I have a lot of time on my hands!
Thank you ladies for your great information and support!!!

hairmad, do exactly the OPPOSITE of what I did I fully expected my lf to e a 'beater' when I finished with it, so I am very surprised that it still looks good. There were times that I had to just walk away and try another day. So, you must have patiences!
