look in the newbie thread there's a picture of me ( i think page 3) and it shows my natural part tip and you'll see how to do it.. then look at jadevetti's post she's wearing the steri strips too.. its another technique you need to learn to get rid of the grid..

If you don't want to wait for something to be shipped you can try the burn care tape that I use. It's at most drug store chains and it looks like this:
They're made out of a gel-like material that feels like skin and your lace will disappear when you put it underneath. HTH

if they are silicon sheets they are clear, but i don't know cuz that's not what i use.. the steri strips are flesh tone color...BTW don't make me get to thinking cuz i got some silicon sheets left over i might how to figure something out.. LOLLOLLOLLOL no i'm too tired right now..

Yes, they are silicone sheets and they seem kinda gel-like. They are flesh colored and 1 entire side already has adhesive on it and the other side is smooth and feels like skin. Because the gel is slightly cushy the lace seems to sink down into it a little bit and it disappears. No need for make-up brushes or powders.

I LOVE them. I gotta say thank you to Breh and SexiB because their tape method is what gave me the idea to try these. I don't always wear a fixed part and these sheets are wider. However, my real motivation was that I was trying to avoid having to pay shipping and didn't want to wait for the strips to come.

that's great alternative.. i know how they are, they are like gel..i used them after my surgery, i also used the steri strips after my surgery and that's how i came up with that idea.. b/c i loved them, they both worked great for my scars altho i did sweat with the silicon sheets wearing them b/c they are a little thicker but a great idea none the less.. and YES they come wider but so do the steri strips b/c all the scar management treatments come in different shapes and sizes depending on the scar your trying to heal.. so i'll consider this next time.. thanks for the tip!!! Clap

so did you use an adhesive to make them stick to the lace? b/c as i remember they don't automatically stick, there was no sticky side when i used them i had to use a medical tape to keep them on..

No, they already come with an adhesive coated on 1 side of them. All you do is unwrap it and stick it where you want it to go on your lace. I think the only time someone might need to add something extra is if they want to change the color of the tape from beige to a darker color then they could follow the suggestions you already gave about that on BHM. Or they could pm JadeVetto cuz she seems to have that down to a science. Was her app with that tape method the bomb or what ??

no that was jadevetti, but that's good to know b/c its been a while since i used the silicon sheets my surgery was in 2001 YIPEE.. anyway thanks for explaining i'm still waiting for jadevetti to tell me all she did.. from what i gather she also used a wig cap dark brown so i think she must have added the steri strip underneath to the cap.. anyways as soon as i get confirmation form her i'm gonna add her's and your's to the newbie thread thanks... and of course i'll do my own experimentation with the silicon sheets.. Wink

girl i'll never forget that b/c i'm still emotional over her application.. it was soooooooooooo important to me that the tip worked for all women of color and she proved it worked for all of us.. so i'm teary eyed over that one.. LOL

I wanted 2 know it doesnt work with just regular band-aids

Posted By: Curlygirl11
Date Posted: March 22 2008 at 10:05pm

You could try it but I don't think so because regular bandaids have holes in them and they have that white cloth part on the side you would adhere to the lace.

OMG, Curlgirl, I use the exact same product on my wig and the grids completely disappear, I have been using them for a while now, and I really like the width and the way it makes the parts look like your skin. I do not wear foundation so instead of foundation, I just spray SH on it, and it looks perfect.

I can't believe the creativity in this place! LOL. Awesome ideas.

What I'm wondering, is when you take the unit off and wash, are you taking the steri-strip/silicon sheet off each time and then placing a new one? Would this not damage the lace?

Wow LOL I guess great minds think alike. I love them too because they look and feel so much like skin. I gotta go get some more today because I only have 2 left. I know the lady at my local Walgreens must be thinking "Dang! She's the most accident prone woman in the world !!". LOL

Yes, I it off every week when I wash and condition my unit. The adhesive isn't strong enough to damage the lace or the knots. As a matter of fact, even if you tried to leave it on I think it would fall off by itself as soon as you got some shampoo on it.

You just peel off the adhesive backing and stick it to the underside of your lace wherever you plan to part your hair and it looks like scalp.

Thanks for this link!

Question: How do you apply it?

It looks like the sticky side has to go against the lace (on the underside) ... but then how would the 'textured skin tone' side be seen through the lace? Seems like you would only see the sticky side.

What am I missing here. :)))
