Okay ladies, I'm a big believer that mistakes provide some of THE BEST learning opportunities.

My heart really goes out to other women when they get frustrated about not being able to get their app to look like some of the apps they've seen posted on the board. I remember that feeling. Angry

I think it's only fair that we make sure they know that most of us didn't start off knowing how to do this and that we made mistakes too. I think doing this will encourage them not to give up because they are not alone and getting a good app takes a bit of trial and error.

SO.....this thread is where we will post those pics we've never posted before.....you know the ones from when you had 3 feet of baby hair plastered to the sides of your head to hide your lace or when the edge of you wig cap was waving at people through the lace or when your knots were so big people were chasing you with a can of Raid to kill all them ants crawling around on your headhalloween1.....I could go on but you get the picture.

Okay, I'll start :

PROBLEM: This was the 1st unit I ever applied and in this pic you can clearly see the edge of my wig cap waving at you through the light brown lace.
SOLUTION: To fix it I initially put make up around the edge of the wig cap so that the color transition from my face to the wig cap wasn't noticeable. That took more time than I wanted to spend so now I dissolve a tiny amount of cocoa brown Rit Dye into a bowl of hot water and dye the edge of all my wig caps to match the color of my face.

PROBLEM: I had to plaster baby hair to the right side of my face to cover up the fact that my lace was buckling and folding on the sides because my ear-to-ear over the forehead measurements were too big.
SOLUTION: I cut the unit off a little bit above each ear so that the lace would lay flat against my skin from ear to ear. After that I didn't have to use baby hair anymore to camouflage any buckling lace.

PROBLEM: See that big shiny bald spot right there in the front ? That's what happened when I decided I would bleach a small patch of stubborn knots for a 3rd time. Them little suckers got pissed off and just revolted in protest. kane
SOLUTION: DON'T DO THAT !! Use RIT Dye Color Remover BEFORE you bleach your knots on really dark colored hair and you will get better results on your first attempt.

I still have this unit and it's now my personal science experiment. I'm currently using this unit to practice my ventilating on. Even though it's been cut for resizing, thinned out with a thinning comb, had the knots bleached 3 times, lost some curls due to using the RIT Dye color remover, been highlighted, etc. there are no rips or tears or fraying of the swiss lace and it will be weareable again once I reventilate the areas where I burned out the knots. If I would have known then what I know now I would not have spent over $500.00 purchasing it from an AV. I would have purchased from a CV and saved myself about $300.00. Oh well, live and learn.

Alright ladies, who's got next...........popcorn

Curly your brave Girl! When I did my frist phase of apps, I was too busy in the bathroom trying to find my way out of those ultrahold webs, I would not come near a camera.  I had glue everywhere and I have permanent scars where i ripped tape off and skin too! Lets just say....Not a good look on film! lol

OUCH !!!!  Shocked Permanent scars ?? What kind of tape were you using ? Do you think it was just that you didn't let the remover sit on your skin long enough ?

Girl, I knew nothing about patience when I started. I was just ripping it off over and over again...DAILY!!! I was using UH and ST and suffered irritation out of this world.  I used hycortisone 2% mixed with Nystatin and it help overnight. I had remover but did not wait for it to work...girl, I did not realize that I had too.  These LF are tough and you only get better with time and effort put forth in it. I did not know about this board and had no help so i was left to figure things out  myself.

Well good thing you found the hair boards while you still had skin left on your forehead. You are a TRUE pioneer cuz I would have been too scared to even try lf's if I hadn't found the hair forums first.

Now come ladies, where the yest of yall at ??? popcorn
I know you're not too vain to let the newbies profit from your mistakes. Go ahead and dig those old pics out.

Well I haven't even applied mine but today I tried to bleach the knots and got the orange root look. I fixed it with another rit dye remover dip and more bleach and haircolor. Here is the final look although I would like it to be a little darker at some places. I most likely will do another root touch up this week. I was scared I would mess up the lace but this hair from Rex is from heaven.

P.S This is not me wearing the lf. It's a styrofoam mannequin

You did a good job fixing it P&B. Thumbs%20Up What happened? Did you apply too much pressure when putting the bleach on the knots?  Did you only do the root touch up in the part or did you do it in other areas too ? I can't tell it was ever over bleached.

This is what your hairline will look like if you order a lace color that is too light for your complexion.  You could have the perfect application, but if the lace is too light, it shows.  Look right around the temple area in the second pic.  That's not adhesive or tape, it's the lace.

This is what your hairline will look like if you use too much adhesive and you don't let it dry the appropriate amount of time.  Remember, less is more and if you are in a hurry, go for a tape only application if you don't have enough time to let the adhesive dry properly before appling the unit.

I would only post these pics for you guys, no one else.Wink

Princess LF I can see what you're talking about in the 1st and 3rd photos but the 2nd photo looks good to me. I LOVE that unit on you otherwise. Are you gonna try to dye the lace to match your complexion better ?

I actually used Breh's method with the fabric pen from Joann Fabrics.  The unit is good now.  Those are the "before" pics.

Princess Lf your curly unit is the truth! Which vendor is it from?

I've got one from this lady in town who orders from china to sell to hairloss salons and it tangles like nobody's business! And if I don't drench it in glycerin, it looks like I got it off a corpse Dead

Lilypod, The unit is a Jacksun bodywave.  I love it because it can be worn straight or wavy as shown in the pic.  I just spray leave in conditioner and silicon spray while it's wet after shampooing and conditioning, scrunch it up and let it air dry on a towel.  It looks good all week.  I sometimes have to wet it down once during the week and apply just a little John Sebastian's Wet on it and I'm good for the rest of the week.  Good luck with your unit.

Actually Kim I like the way the twists look on the side. If you took out the curve in the middle and did them all straight back I think it would be extra cute.....minus the sticky hairline where the pastor's hand got stuck before. Shocked I'm sorry. I just couldn't help it. Girl I will NEVER forget that story LOL It was THE funniest thing I have ever read on a hair board. LOL
