Hey ladies!
I have been reading A LOT about lacewigs last weekend, I still haven't done my first order yet. Sometimes you wish there were 27hours in a day you know?!LOL
Anyway...
When I first read about lacewig, I loved the fact that you can technically keep it on for up to a month. Big%20smile
After reading more posts from you guys I realised that most of you seem to get a good hold for up to a week.
So of course I have a few questions for you!...

- For those of you who take off you LW every week, have you not found a longer lasting adhesive or you just prefer to take it off every week end for comfort?

- Is there anyone on this board who keeps her unit on for more than 10 days or who would be able to do so if she wanted to, and if yes, which adhesive do you use please?

-How long does your 'week end routine' last and is it necessary to clean you LW every time you take it off?

One of the main reason I was interested in lacefront /lacewigs is because it seems pretty low maintenance. I am wearing a Bohyme hair (weft) and I love my installs, however I need to wash my hair/blowdry/iron every single day of the year which is quite time-consuming. no
LW would be a great option for me but I'd like to know if the 'extended wear' of several weeks is possible for everyone or if it only works for a lucky few with the right body chemistry!Embarrassed

Thanks in advance for your help!!penguin

Once you find the adhesive that is right for you, you should be able to get at least a week hold. I use Davlyn clear glue and supertape together, and I get a week and a half hold.

24 hours is too long! 2 years of LF wear and I still can't sleep with that stuff on my head.  Embarrassed

Frenchie, I'm sure you can achieve up to a 1-2 wk hold when you find the adhesive that is right for your body chemistry.  But if you find that your skin can't take the extended wear, Supertape + a light glue of your choice is great for daily wear (pick a glue that "didn't work" when you were going for that 100 day hold -- easy cleanup!).

I only take mine off at the end of the week if I am sick of that particular unit / style, or I want/need to wash and clean the entire unit.

I generally wear my unit for 10-14 days, as long as the hair looks neat, and it has some body / movement I keep mine on for as long as possible.  If it starts to look nasty or greasy (due to the oil I put on my own scalp prior to applying the wig or the oil my own scalp secretes) I remove it.

I use supertape / satin tape / proflex tape and some form of adhesive (secure, invisibond or anything I have on hand).  I usually tie my hair down the day that I put it on and that night, after that I hardly ever put a head scarf on my head.

For me it is necessary to clean the wig everytime I take it off because I want the unit to be ready for the next wear-U have to clean the glue / residue off your wig before the next wear bc if not it will not adhere well to your skin if at all.

Thanks everyone! Sexibeach, thanks for making this clear, I guess Newbies like me can't help but believing the ads!
Amazon, I didn't know that the oil from the scalp can actually affect the unit while wearing. I have a very oil scalp, that is why I need to shampoo every morning.
I would think that a lace wig wouldn't get oily from the scalp oils because you wear a cap on top of your hair.
Also, when you say you have to clean the wig after removal, do you mean you need to remove the glue residus or do you mean you always have to shampoo the hair?
Sorry if this sounds like a silly question!
Merci!Embarrassed

3 weeks and i feel the creepy crawlies ... so i keep it to 10 days the most ...

One of the main reason I remove my unit weekly is due to the hairline. I wear makeup and when I wash my face, I tend to get my facial products in my hairline. I've since gotten more careful and now I can "force" getting a 2-week hold.

Another reason is the hold during the warmer months of the year. I'm on a quest to find something that works in the Chicago heat.

The  next reason is the "look" of the adhesive. Past 5 days, certain tapes look white; some adhesives take on a gummy affect and look "icky".

And finally, I think it's best to wash my hair every 2 weeks. But that's not a priority over hold. If I get a great hold, I'd be wiling to stretch that to 3 weeks. Wink

Thanks a lot Intl Babygirl & Chic-geek!
Chic geek, which adhesive do you use? 2 weeks sounds great!

My other question for you girls..
Do natural oils from your scalp go on your lacewig hair? I have an oily scalp so it would really bother me!....Confused

I wear my for 2 weeks straight before taking off. I use just supertape alone it seems to work really well for me. But lately I have been trying vapon with supertape and that looks like I will get a 3-4 week hold.

It usually takes me anywhere from 4-6 hours (including washing and braiding my own hair and shampooing and conditioning the lace and i usually comb and braid the hair in sections and sometimes I let it air dry if Im not gonna wear it next and if I plan on wearing it next I usually blowdry it with the air on low and cold air and reapply and tie down for about 15 min or so and I am done.

Davlyn+SuperTape is what gave me such a incredible hold. But, I'm going into summer and I'm a little leary of it's holding power in the heat.

I don't have the oily scalp problem. In fact, I'm convinced I have the Sahara Desert for scalp skin. It's so dry! I use a wig cap to hold the flakes in (LOL). Maybe that will help with your oils.

PLS I WISH I COULD REACH A POINT WHERE THE ENTIRE THING STAYED ON FOR ONVER 3 DAYS. IM SO TIRED OF REAPPLYING HERE AND THERE AND SPOT CHECKING. I SMELL A SEW IN COMING ON.

The longest I've ever worn mine is 10 days and that was because I was out of town on vacation.  I only used the blue tape for that application and I don't sweat much.  During the 10 days there were two times where I needed to do a quickie repair (once on the nape and once along the hairline). That's one of the reasons I like to use the tape... because it is so easy to remove and apply.  I still find the glue to be too messy.

Whether you use glue or tape, you will most likely have to do minor touch ups if you plan to wear the unit for a very long time like a month.

Normally, I wear my units three days because I get bored easily and I like changing my look.

Bottom line is we all try various adhesives to see what works best for our particular skin type and lifestyle.

Of course, the ladies have given some great advice.

I'm sure you're thinking of everything before you order your unit Frenchie. i just wanted you to think about how your scalp will likely feel with a wig cap and wig OVER your "oily' scalp. If you are used to washing daily, then you will mostly likely find it irritating to keep anything on your scalp without washing for more than two days! (Just my opinion) I'm not sure what I'm trying to sayLOL, but it's not like your oily scalp will disappear wearing a wig. A buildup of oil on your scalp will likely lead to incessant itching. I guess I just want you to think realistically, although I still think a lace unit would be awesome for you!

Whether or not I wear a wig cap the oil still comes thru traves from the roots down the hairshaft to the tips. I also workout a few days a week and the sweat from my head it affects it as well. For me the wig cap does not necessarily contain the oil on my scalp.

Also, when you say you have to clean the wig after removal, do you mean you need to remove the glue residus or do you mean you always have to shampoo the hair?

I do both I remove the glue / tape residue and I shampoo the wig. There have been several times when I have been a hurry and I wanted to wear the same exact unit, so I would remove the unit, clean the glue and reappy the same unit but when I do that the hair does not have as much body / movement to it as it would have if I had shampoed and conditioned it prior to reapplying.

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question!

No need for apologies-none of your questions are silly.

7 days max for me, i have extreme dandruff and dry scalp and need to treat my hair weekly.  I have no problem taking it off sooner if my unit starts doing the electric slide on my head LOL  For me, it is a must to clean off the adhesives from the lace in order to lengthen it's lifespan.

one word of caution Frenchie with extended wear of a lacefront and dampness in the scalp lead to infected follicles with a fungas.. most of us to avoid this use MTG http://www.shapelys.com - www.shapelys.com and/or the human version is http://www.sulu.com - www.sulu.com which MTG is a oil that is used for horses and their mane.. being that your oily naturally you might could consider using glovers medicated shampoo which has anti fungas ingredients.. or consider using http://www.brands2liveby.com/product.aspx?id=420 - Neosporin AF® Athlete' s Foot Antifungal Cream  mixed in a light hair cream and apply it to your scalp which a lot of women use for promoting hair growth.. i know this sounds strange but it works both of them at keeping the fungas out of your follicles and preventing fungas as well as promoting growth, but both are meant for the scalp only not the hair.. for me this is not only about looking fly but promoting hair growth as well as a healthy scalp b/c they go hand and hand.. and for me personally any extended wear beyond a week defeats my purpose.. i must do my hair treatments and my hair is heatlhy and growing as i wear them, without the heat, chemicals, blow drying and the daily manipulation.. not only does it promote healthy hair and scalp it helps with a itchy scalp while wearing a lf, which will come if you don't go that extra mile of prevention...

Excellent points, Sexi! Sometimes I forget the maintenance and "proper" care of my own hair. The wigs are so beautiful that I never want to wear my own hair again; but that doesn't mean it should be as strong and healthy as possible.

Kudos to you for keeping me grounded in that fact Thumbs%20Up

Lots of advice on this thread.  Kudos to us all.

I can't go more than a week before I can't stand it anymore.  I'm a sweater with oily skin, and the thought of what's going on under that lace after 6 days is enough to push me off the deep in!  I started shaving my head several years back thinking that would help, but I still can't go more that a week.  When I first started wearing lace units, i would buy adhesives expecting a 30 day hold.  For me, that's just unrealistic.  After five or six days, I can smell my scalp and then I know I have to get it off and I can hardly wait to get home to rip it off and start all over again!
