What level of peroxide should I use when using a # 3 level color on hair that is just a tad lighter than that?

I am planning on using Framesi 3N hair color on my already died dark brown hair, and I would like to know which volume of peroxide would give the best results and do the least damage.

I'd use 10 volume maximum, definitely not anything higher.

Gray hair can be resistant.  I don't have gray yet so I don't have any personal experience, but I know there are a lot of tricks out there to try to open up the tough cuticle on gray hair before dyeing.  One trick is letting the dye sit on the gray hair alone, (without the developer) then toweling it off after 10 minutes, then adding the dye mix.  (the alkaline dye is supposed to help open the cuticle).  This should work even better with ammonia based dyes (more alkaline).

Another trick is putting developer on for a few minutes prior to try to open the cuticle.  You are right, I'm not sure 10 volume would be strong enough for this job, I usually hear at least 20 volume used for that - but again, I haven't tried it personally.  Since you want to go darker, I'd try the dye alone trick instead.

20 vol will help cover the grey but 10 won't.  Good luck!
