I just got my hair cut short yesturday. It turned out terrible in my opinion and I don't know what to do to fix it.

this is the picture i brought the stylist

and this is what I ended up with (don't mind my skin I don't have any makeup on)

I don't know if I'm styling it wrong and if I am I don't know how to do it right. I'm trying to live with it but it really doesn't suit me. I don't know where to go from here.

Personally, I'd go back to the stylist, only if you feel comfortable with their ability, and ask for styling help; if you're not comfortable with them, I would go to someone else with that picture and ask for help.  It looks like you just need to add a little volume.

From the pic, it looks like it is too long in the back but that the stylist cut the layers wrong .  Have you used styling products (like mousse) to get more volume?
I also think going back to ask for styling help would be good but I would be wary if the scissors come out - to me it looks like it was cut wrong (but hard to tell from a pic).

it was cut wrong. she kept the back the same length I came in with and she started from the top and cut down the hair instead of starting with cuting the length and then adding layers. She also didn't style it. she just put gel in it and scrunched it while wet and sent me on my way. I've tried styling it like the picture but the layers and length are totally wrong to achieve the look. The sides are short but the back is long and puffy, i swear it looks like a mullet or something. I've thought about going to a stylist that my friend goes to and see if she can fix it. I might see if she wants to do a Mandy Moore look to it since it can't really be like the original hairstyle that i wanted. I haven't decided to go to someone to fix it or not because I'm scared that I'll just have another mistake on my hands. What do you think? leave it alone or go mandy moore with it?

Personally, I would go to another stylist and see what they can do.  I like the Mandy Moore style you are referring to. I think it would look good on you.   As I see it, the style is out of balance and even if you let it grow back out it wouldn't look good unless you cut it to get it back in balance anyway, so why not try a better stylist!  (Hope that makes sense)

I have to agree with loveshorthair, no stylist should send you out with wet unstyled hair unless you ask her not to style it.

Any "good" stylist wants you to be happy and exp. when changing your style will take the time to teach you have to get the look you want.

I went and got it fixed yesterday, it looks really good now. I have the back shortened and now I can actually do the piecy look. I haven't quite mastered it yet but I'm getting better.

From flat and blah to volume and wow!   Looks much better.  Did you go to a different stylist or back to the same one?

Yes, still like it. Although, because of school getting intense (going to MedVance for Medical Coding Specialist) I haven't had any "me" time to go back and keep it maintained. I may have to wait until things slow down again before I can get a trim or anything. Hubby really likes it too, so I'll probably stick with it, we'll see....Embarrassed

Cool.  Got to find that "me" time though; good luck, thanks

NEEDS 2 IN OVER 3 IN LAYERS CONSECUTIVE TO CROWN AND THE SHAPE WOULD BE LAYERED BETTER SO THAT YOUR HAIR WILL SET IN THAT SAME BODY AS THE PICLamp
