Last summer, I was in the process of growing my hair out from short and spiky (had 2 1/2 - 3 years worth of growth). Heck, I was doin pretty good til I stepped into a salon and the stylist pulled all my hair on top of my head and she WHAPPED my BSL to my shoulders with layers hacked up to my ears. I even *yelled* at her on two occasions that she was lucky my hair grows fast and the other girl said I could still put it in a ponytail. I pulled it back, hair falling in my face and asked her if this stub looked pretty infront of all the patrons... she threatened to kick me out but not before I got the money back that my mom paid for 2 cuts (mine and hers).
I was devistated but 8 months later, here I am, growing out again. It's been a long 8 months without a trim and quite frankly, my hair has next to zero split ends and I probably won't trim for awhile anyway.
Here's my pic, just taken this evening. I'm hoping to get past BSL by the end of summer. I'm almost there now. Almost.

I've resorted to hair extensions to get back what that wanna be Barbie took off of me but even the clip ins have caused some minor breakage that I can't bear to continue so I've stopped wearing them for now. I've also been taking Biotin as a suppliment but that's all. I wanted to look into the hairtopia or whatever it's called but I can't seem to get info on ingrediants because I have a deadly food allergy so I can't just take anything and even have to read ingrediants on shampoo.
I do color my hair but only because I'm graying. Plus I flat iron it once in awhile and I've been washing it every other day. I can't go past a couple days inbetween washes because I sweat alot at work... but that's all the torture it sees every now and again.
I've seen the pics of all of your hair and I just want ya'll to know, I'm right behind ya and a tad bit jealous! I can't wait to have it super long again!

Hi and welcome! I know you didn't ask for this, and may already know about it, but just in case here are Feye's instructions for trimming your own hair so this need never happen to you again. Salons can be so frustrating! Sounds like the girl just completely doesn't understand if she can't think of any good reason to have longer hair than to fit it into a ponytail. http://community.livejournal.com/feyeselftrim/ - http://community.livejournal.com/feyeselftrim/
Edited to add: Your hair is pretty! I love its color and thickness!

Thanks Susan!
I did see the link a couple days ago but I'm kinda scared that I might hack it! It hasn't seen a pair of scissors in almost 9 months now.
I wish I could wake up and be hit with the hair fairy wand and have gorgeous long locks all for me! But I'll wait it out...
I love seeing all the pics though... especially DaveDeckers!
G~O~R~G~E~O~U~S Dave! Simply Gorgeous!
And thanks for the color compliment. It comes from a bottle. It seems as though one day, it just got super thick after spitting out 2 babies 13 years ago. No more for me though.

Good for you, Addy, for standing up for yourself against that butcher. My feeling is that your hair looks great now, and that you could go as long as you wish w/o trimming at all. This is personal taste, of course. In general, I trust stylists about as far as I could throw their chair. (No threat intended!) lol
In the future, think about allowing a VERY trusted friend (or husband, maybe) to trim the very bottom for you. Even with them, be explicit. Get a tape out. Anyway, welcome and happy growing, Addy! Best, Bob

Hi Addy, What a horrible experience you suffered at the salon. I am certain that you must not have ask the stylist to chop it all off. There really is no explanation for what they did, other than gross negligence/incompetence/arrogance.
Thank you for the compliment on my hair. Just let it grow for another 6 or 7 years and you will have the same. (Or similar). I promise.

Thanks Bob!
I have a very dear friend who is a stylist who I trust. I should have stuck with her that day I ventured into another salon. I guess that's what I get huh? BUT NEVER AGAIN! Live and learn!
Thanks Dave!
I will have long hair again! It grows so fast, I can hardly wait!

Oh, now how could she have long hair and not understand?! Somethings wrong with that girl.
Anyway, that's the beauty of Feye's method, you really can't mess it up, it just naturally comes out straight. You just put it in a scrunchy, slide it down like she shows, then cut straight across, making sure your cut line looks straight. Most of the time when I do this, I'm only cutting off 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch, no one would even notice the difference. Its a good idea to have someone you trust with you to help you pay attention to detail though. I agree with Bob though, your hair looks good, and doesn't look like it needs a trim at all now anyway.

"I guess that's what I get huh? "
No, Addy. What happened to you is beyond excuse. Just b/c it happens often in salons doesn't mean that any victim "had it coming", so to speak. I know you weren't saying that exactly, but if a unwanted drastic chop happened my wife (ever again), I'd be after the hacker's license. There seems to be an arrogance built into some stylists' cosmetology licenses. I'm happy to hear that you have found one who is respectful of your desires. Keep thinking positive, and you WILL reach your goals! Blessings, Bob

I have a question.
I'm taking vitamins (Hair, Body, Skin, Nails) and I'm wondering if they can make your hair curly because my hair is getting curly!
I've never had curly hair. It's not curly curly but it's holding a pretty good wave like never before!!!
Can this really happen?

I don't believe so. The differing texture may be a result of length changes, layering (or none), haircare routine (conditioner used), or some combination thereof.

I will Dave.
I just got my layers cut today and I'm so happy to be rid of most of them.
Now I can really go without heat styling tools! I can't give up my color though! This 30 year old is too young to turn gray! I have a good bit coming in too but I have honestly earned every single one of them.

Looking good.
Your hair looks alot like mine! You said you never had waves before, but do now. I'm experiencing the same thing. My DH asked me last night what I did to my hair, he said it looked like I just took rollers out of it. I always had stick straight hair, weird.

I colored my hair today. I don't like my gray hair. I'm noticing more and more so that's why I color it!
Here is a pic aired dry. I did cheat a little and used a blow dryer on cool setting while I ran my fingers through it... so it still counts as aired dry right?
http://imageshack.us">
I still have a ways to go and I'm loving it more that it is at one length, almost. I have a shorter layer on the left side than the right but it only bugs me. I'll get it trimmed again in December. <I tried Faye's method and got nervous so my friend trims it for me >
Here is a side view...

Well, I'm off to growing some more!

I use Garnier 100% 501.
I don't use anything else and I'll go elsewhere if I can't find it at a store.

Your hair is very pretty and I also love the color. I was surprised that the Garnier Med. Brown 501 gave you such a pretty red tone to your hair, since most med. browns look dull. Your hair also looks very healthy and shiny. Happy Growing

Thanks Kimbearly~
My hair has always pulled red. My sister is a red head so I guess I pull red honestly.
The growing out is such a slow process!
